Our office in Wichita, Kansas is currently seeking an experienced engineer, construction professional, or geologist to lead our team as the Operations Manager. You will be leading a dynamic team of professionals who are focused on being inclusive, diverse, caring and highly performing, in a profitable office poised for growth. The position also has responsibility for a satellite office team located in Garden City, Kansas.
You will provide leadership and manage the direct/support activities (administrative and technical) of an engineering consulting office and partner with other regional offices. This includes profit/loss management, employee supervision and development, project management, risk management and quality control, employee safety and well-being, client development activities, and new business development. Responsible for general leasehold improvements, project and office equipment, and proper oversight and utilization of all personnel.
Terracon's work is rooted in geotechnical, environmental, and materials engineering. This position requires a strong understanding of field-based engineering services, professional licensure environments, project risk management, and consulting operations.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee medium sized office and satellite office supporting multiple service lines with aggregate booked labor revenues typically between $5-10 million.
  • Supervise projects within the technical disciplines practiced by the organization, within the same office usually at the same time.
  • Evaluate and monitor workloads in the office, and oversee employee lifecycle (recruitment, hiring, performance management, salary administration, discipline, termination).
  • Supervise preparation of proposals by all professionals and coordinate with corporate marketing and firm technical experts, as needed.
  • Direct and participate in the execution of the office's business development efforts.
  • Responsible for preparation of office annual and financial business plan and budgets and operating the office within approved budgets.
  • Monitor job status reports and coordinate with department managers.
  • Apprise Director, Regional Operations of office progress including business development, project schedules, employee management, financial results, and equipment/facility/organizational needs.
  • Assist Department Managers in determining their staffing needs and actions to secure qualified personnel.
  • Responsible for monitoring and following requirements of the strategic plan; work to grow office in accordance with the strategic plan.
  • Manage risk related to projects. Ensure contracts are signed and fully executed prior to commencing work. Monitor adherence to corporate risk policies and practices. Hold Managers accountable for mitigating or eliminating risk.
  • Communicates safety initiatives, rules and guidelines for Office or Region. Holds Managers and Employees accountable for following safety rules and guidelines.
  • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Ensure best practices are being followed and hold Managers accountable for quality control standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (i.e., environmental, geotechnical, etc.) Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years' related experience.
  • Prior people management with P&L experienced required.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
