Job description

Job Description:

This position has responsibilities for the accounting for net patient services revenue, primarily from the hospitals (Hospital Billing or HB) and medical group clinics (Physician Billing or PB) of Intermountain Health. This position also ensures financial accounting and reporting follows U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (U.S. GAAP); maintains a strong system of internal controls; hires, trains, develops and retains competent personnel; and provides excellent service to internal stakeholders.

Proficiency with the Kodiak RCA Tool, SQL-based data analysis, and analytical methodologies used to evaluate valuation results, validate data integrity, and investigate data, process, or system-related

Essential Functions

  • Manages the day-to-day operations and performance of net revenue accounting processes and procedures.

  • Manages the inputs, assumptions and outputs of the Kodiak RCA net revenue valuation tool. Coordinates with Revenue Cycle, Finance, Payer Contracting and Kodiak to maintain accuracy and completeness of revenue valuation.

  • Supervises the net revenue department during the month-end close process and prepares or reviews assigned balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Prepares and supports the reporting of monthly net revenue results to the regional finance teams. Works closely with accounting managers to ensure net revenue numbers are properly reported each month.

  • Prepares or reviews all month-end journal entries prepared by the net revenue analysts prior to posting and analyzes results (including understanding variances to forecast, trend and plan). Ensures the net revenue analysts adhere to the month-end processes, timelines, and quality expectations. Mentors analysts to produce accurate and timely work.

  • Collaborates with reimbursement, revenue cycle, and regional finance teams to develop and support net revenue forecasts and plans. Participates in the preparation of operational and capital budgets for hospitals and medical groups.

  • Maintains effective and appropriate staffing and staff scheduling to ensure goals are met. Promotes staff flexibility and cross-training. Provides communication to associates through huddles, staff meetings and other forms of communication to relay updates regarding department updates, organizational activities, financial performance, educational opportunities and interdepartmental activities.

  • Supports enterprise initiatives related to net revenue through detailed analysis and execution support.

  • Identifies and implements process improvements within net revenue accounting workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

  • Progressive leadership experience managing healthcare net revenue accounting functions across multiple locations with increasing responsibility across complex revenue cycle operations.

  • Working knowledge of revenue cycle processes, state and federal requirements (i.e., charging, billing, price transparency), and the impact on net revenue.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Kodiak RCA Tool.

  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant.

  • Ability to interpret upstream operational activity and partner with subject matter experts to ensure accurate financial reporting, while relying on those partners for operational process ownership.

  • Understanding of coding classification systems, such as ICD-10-CM, ICD-9-CM, MS-DRG, CPT-4, APR-DRG, and HCC.

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

  • Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.

  • May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
