Job description

Behavioral Health Technician Crisis Service

Pay Grade: 5

Under the general supervision of the Site Director, the Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for the well-being of patients in the Crisis Care facility. Behavioral Technicians are responsible for assisting clients with day-to-day activities, monitoring their progress, and resolving issues and problems as they arise.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers of individuals.
  • Conducts ongoing observation of individuals for the purpose of reporting any significant changes.
  • Responds quickly to critical situations that may require Restrictive Interventions.
  • Provides de-escalation and support strategies to prevent the use of physical restraints.
  • Provides effective emergency response in the event of imminent danger in order to maintain safety and security.
  • Provides a No-Force-First recovery environment.
  • Assists with food preparation, serving and clean up.
  • Assists individuals with shower and clean-up.
  • Monitors internal cameras throughout the shift.
  • Assists with environmental and safety checks on the crisis units.
  • Attends all required unit leadership team meetings.
  • Performs room safety checks, ensuring that individuals are safe from potentially dangerous objects and that the rooms are clean.
  • Completes documentation as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of the practices of a Behavioral Health Technician.
  • Knowledge of Crisis Operations principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Peer Recovery Support principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health and mental health principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Suicide Prevention, Resilience and Crisis Intervention.
  • Knowledge of Substance Use Disorder practices and principles.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

High school diploma or a G.E.D.  

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Two (2) years of professional experience performing behavioral technician or peer recovery and support duties and responsibilities.

REQUIRED LICENSE(S):

A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Active and valid Food Handler’s Certification required or obtained within the first 30 days of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position will work in the DWIHN Crisis Care Center. This position will be required to work with persons who may suffer from mental health or substance abuse crises.

Crisis Care Operations is a 24/7 unit. Candidates will be required to work a 12-hour schedule. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.
