The main difference is that a Manager Requirements Engineer oversees teams and manages requirements processes, while a Requirements Engineer focuses on analyzing and documenting requirements. The manager role involves leadership and strategic planning, whereas the requirements engineer role is more technical and detail-oriented.

How does a Manager Requirements Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during the project lifecycle?

A Manager Requirements Engineer works closely with stakeholders from product management, development, quality assurance, and sometimes even end users to gather and clarify requirements. Throughout the project lifecycle, they facilitate communication between teams, ensuring that all technical and business needs are accurately captured and understood. They may lead requirements workshops, oversee documentation, and mediate any discrepancies between what stakeholders want and what is technically feasible. Effective collaboration is key to avoiding misunderstandings and ensuring project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Manager Requirements Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Manager Requirements Engineer, you need strong analytical abilities, expertise in systems engineering, and a solid background in requirements management, typically supported by a degree in engineering or computer science. Familiarity with requirements management tools like IBM DOORS, Jama Connect, or similar platforms, along with certifications such as INCOSE CSEP or PMI-PBA, is highly valuable. Outstanding leadership, stakeholder communication, and problem-solving skills help drive teams and foster effective collaboration across departments. These capabilities ensure that project requirements are clearly defined, traceable, and aligned with business objectives, resulting in successful project outcomes.

What are Manager Requirements Engineers?

Manager Requirements Engineers are professionals who oversee teams responsible for gathering, analyzing, and documenting the requirements for projects, particularly in engineering, IT, or software development. They ensure that the needs and expectations of stakeholders are accurately captured and communicated to the technical teams. In addition to managing the requirements process, they coordinate with project managers, clients, and engineers to ensure that all specifications are clear and achievable. Their role is crucial in preventing misunderstandings and ensuring the final product meets quality and functional standards.

What are the 7 tasks of requirement engineering?

Requirement engineering for a Manager Requirements Engineer involves seven key tasks: eliciting requirements from stakeholders, analyzing and prioritizing them, documenting specifications clearly, validating requirements to ensure accuracy, managing changes throughout the project, communicating requirements effectively to teams, and maintaining traceability to track requirements through development. These tasks ensure that project goals are well-defined and achievable, supporting successful system development.

Job description

What We're Doing
Our team, the Command and Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) team at Lockheed Martin, is dedicated to engineering, developing, and integrating new capabilities for the Missile Defense System that protects the United States and its allies. While we are part of a large organization, we operate within smaller, agile teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Our responsibilities include Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development, Automated Testing, Cyber Security, and enhancing critical missile defense technologies.
The Work
This position will perform some or all of the following duties, concentrating on early-phase (concept, requirements, and design) activities of the Systems-Engineering Development Lifecycle:
Spearheading scheduling and tracking deadlines.
Lead the development of new system concepts by transforming stakeholder needs, acquired through documentation and solicitation, into easily reviewable technical approaches.
Perform requirements elicitation and decomposition using behavioral artifacts such as use cases, activity diagrams, and sequence diagrams to convey understanding of the required behaviors and performance of the system under development.
Lead the development of physical and logical system models capturing the system under development utilizing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approaches and tools.
Lead system interface development, as captured in Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Descriptions (IDDs), by converting system and interface requirements into message-level details sufficient to coordinate interface development.
Support formal and informal engineering technical reviews.
Create, review and critique interface documents, system requirements, verification documentation, architectural documentation, and engineering estimates.
Interface with key stakeholders, including the MDA customer and working-level counterparts, as-required.
Participate in Agile development planning and execution, including iteration planning and status reporting.
Please Note:
-Work will be performed in a closed area.
-This position is a 100% in-office position.
Who We Are
