Description
South Portland Housing Authority is seeking an individual with excellent project management skills; the ability to work independently and take initiative; strong attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines; critical thinking skills; excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills to join our team as a Resident Relocation Specialist.
This role will assist with the occupied rehabilitation of a 100-unit affordable housing building owned and operated by the Housing Authority. The 8-story building will receive major improvements to building systems, such as elevators, as well as in-unit work, including window replacements and new air conditioning and heating. Residents will not be required to move from their units but will need to temporarily relocate to the community room while work is performed in their individual units.
This position is responsible for overseeing daily on-site relocation tasks while collaborating closely with residents to prepare for and assist with all required relocation activities. The Resident Relocation Specialist also communicates regularly with the leasing and development team and coordinates with contractors to support a smooth, timely relocation process.
Key responsibilities include serving as a primary point of contact for residents throughout the relocation process, explaining relocation timelines, assisting tenants in preparing apartments for temporary relocation. Coordinating with internal teams, property management, vendors, and community partners to support resident needs, maintaining accurate case notes, and activity logs, scheduling and conducting resident meetings, outreach, connecting residents with social service agencies and providers.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree preferred along with 2-4 years' experience in relocation services, leasing, project management, social services or similar field.
Critical thinking skills and capacity to manage stressful situations. Experience working with diverse populations and ability to communicate with stakeholder groups, staff and residents.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel. Possess a valid Maine Driver's license and clean driving record.
Ability to work a flexible daily schedule Monday through Friday, climb stairs, and be on foot for extended periods.
NOTE:
This is a special project; however, this role will transition into a full-time Property Manager or Resident Services position at the end of the project.
Our standard benefits package for regular full-time employees includes 100% employer-paid health and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability coverage, and life insurance. We also offer a choice between a 7% retirement match or participation in the Maine State Retirement System pension plan, along with generous paid time off.
We will also offer a completion bonus for this important project, which can be negotiated as part of the overall compensation and benefits package.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Start September - End April 2028, will transition to full-time position as a Resident Service Coordinator or Property Manager after project completion.
  • Expected 40-hour week, no weekends

Salary Description
  • Base pay range, $28 - $32 per hour
  • Bonus, 5% - 10% ($4,000-$10,000) upon project completion
  • 2 weeks paid time off
