Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an Environmental Regulatory Compliance Professional to join our Sustainable Operations team in our Indianapolis, IN office. This role generally consists of approximately 50% field work and 50% office work, with periods of 100% field work. Projects will consist of performing a broad range of environmental compliance assessment in manufacturing facilities to address environmental compliance needs related to solid waste, hazardous waste, compliance with regulations pursuant to federal TSCA and RCRA requirements as well as state environmental regulations. Environmental regulatory knowledge will be applied to assess active and inactive buildings/facilities prior to renovation (ie, building characterization assessment), and potentially soil/water sampling for characterization.  Projects will include monitoring/oversight and report preparation. Candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of related professional experience.  Additional role-specific training will be provided by Arcadis.

Role accountabilities:

As an Environmental Regulatory Compliance Professional you will complete plant surveys, bulk sampling of building materials and wastes, assessment of a broad range of conditions related to heavy manufacturing equipment, structures and facilities and ancillary processes, and support a broad range of projects in the industrial manufacturing sector.  You will also assist with reports for projects completed using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other digital programs/tools as well as scoping projects and preparing proposals with senior staff members. 

  • Assess, address and develop plans to achieve and maintain compliance with federal and state environmental regulations related to solid and hazardous waste, general plant environmental compliance, including RCRA, TSCA and state waste and water regulations.
  • Prepare environmental compliance reports in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Conduct inspections and audits, accurately documenting conditions and assessing compliance requirements.
  • Develop and implement waste management plans.
  • Develop plans for environmental sampling and laboratory analysis to achieve characterization of solid and hazardous waste in accordance with environmental regulations.
  • Support and/or lead environmental regulatory compliance aspects of manufacturing plant initiatives.
  • Compare field observations with environmental regulatory compliance requirements and develop recommendations.
  • Prepare project plans, permit applications, compliance documentation, technical reports and closure documentation.
  • Work in a client-oriented consulting environment.
  • Be mentored by senior members of the Environmental Regulatory Compliance discipline from a technical and business perspective.
  • Mentor and assist junior level staff members within the Sustainable Operations group.
  • Keep Heath and Safety First at all times.

In this role you must be willing and able to travel as needed, including overnight trips, possess a valid driver license, be able to pass medical exam and medically cleared to wear negative pressure respirator, and be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. of equipment throughout an 8-hour shift.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Science or Environmental Regulatory Compliance discipline or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in manufacturing or the professional services / consulting business.
  • Knowledge of federal and state solid waste and hazardous waste management, storm water, industrial water, and environmental permits for manufacturing.
  • Detail oriented, with strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel for project assignments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with a broad range of professionals - Engineers, Manufacturing Plant Personnel, General Contractors.
  • Familiarity and experience working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience collecting samples for environmental laboratory analysis
  • Experience with report preparation
  • Experience with facility decommissioning and/or demolition
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety Training
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER
  • Familiarity with EHS Management Systems

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
