Job description

Job DescriptionOverview

We are seeking a PMO Specialist to join ourProject Management Excellence (PME) team in Denver, CO, Alexandria, VA or any U.S. hub offices.

This is not a traditional PMO coordination role. We are looking for someone who can help elevate how project management is practiced across the business. The right person will strengthen PM capability, improve how our teams use tools and data, and help leaders and project managers translate standards into better execution.

This role is ideal for a strong communicator, skilled facilitator, and thoughtful operator who can connect process, data, technology, and people. You should be curious, methodical, courageous, and comfortable influencing across functions and levels. You should also be energized by modern ways of working, including the practical use of AI to improve communication, learning, and project delivery support.

Success in this role means project managers are better equipped, leaders have better visibility, tools and processes are easier to use, communication is clearer, and PME is seen as a trusted enabler of project performance rather than a compliance function.

You will help shape how project management capability grows across AtkinsRealis. This role offers the chance to influence how people work, improve delivery outcomes at scale, and bring modern thinking, communication, and technology into the core of project excellence.

Your role
  • Help strengthen project management capability across the business by translating standards, tools, and expectations into practical guidance that project managers can actually use.
  • Partner with project managers, operational leaders, finance, quality, and other stakeholders to identify gaps, solve problems, and improve project delivery performance.
  • Design and facilitate engaging training sessions, workshops, and presentations for project managers and other audiences, both virtually and in person.
  • Create clear, credible, user-focused communications, learning materials, and enablement content.
  • Coach project managers on core delivery topics such as governance, forecasting, risk, financial discipline, stage gate readiness, and effective use of company tools and processes.
  • Use data, dashboards, and performance signals to identify patterns, surface issues, and support better decisions.
  • Work with internal teams to improve PM tools, dashboards, workflows, and user experience by gathering feedback, shaping requirements, testing enhancements, and helping drive adoption.
  • Contribute to PME initiatives that improve consistency, reduce unnecessary bureaucracy, and make it easier for PMs to succeed.
  • Explore and apply emerging technologies, including AI, to improve communication, learning, analysis, and PM support.
  • Support senior leadership reporting and PME priorities with a focus on what matters, what is changing, and where intervention is needed.
About you
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, engineering, project management, communications, or a related field and a minimum of 7 years of experience in related field.
  • Relevant experience in project management, PMO, operations, project controls, finance, capability building, training, organizational change, or a related environment.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills. You can explain complex ideas clearly, facilitate discussions, and engage skeptical or senior audiences with confidence.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and work effectively across functions and levels of the organization.
  • Strong judgment, organization, and follow-through. You bring structure and rigor without becoming rigid or overly administrative.
  • Curiosity and learning agility. You actively look for better ways of working and are open to using new technologies, including AI, to improve outcomes.
  • Ability to connect data to business meaning. You do not just produce reports. You help people understand what the data is saying and what should happen next.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and political awareness. You can navigate competing priorities, resistance, and stakeholder dynamics with professionalism and tact.
  • Experience creating training content, user-facing communications, or enablement materials is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with project financial concepts, dashboards, reporting tools, and PM systems is helpful.
  • Experience in engineering, infrastructure, consulting, or professional services environments is a plus.
