Job description

Title: Quality Control Manager

Location: Columbia, MO Region

Position Overview

A growing industrial manufacturing organization is seeking a Quality Control Manager to lead site-level quality operations within a fabrication and welding environment. This individual will be responsible for overseeing the Quality Management System (QMS), maintaining compliance with customer and industry standards, and driving continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role overseeing quality personnel while partnering closely with operations, engineering, and production teams to support manufacturing performance, audit readiness, and welding quality compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop Quality Inspectors, Welding Inspectors, and Quality personnel while ensuring inspection coverage across operations
  • Manage incoming, in-process, and final inspection programs
  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality procedures, inspection plans, and documentation systems
  • Lead management review meetings and present quality metrics, audit findings, and improvement plans to leadership
  • Ensure compliance with customer specifications, fabrication drawings, welding procedures, and applicable industry standards
  • Write, review, and maintain WPS, PQR, and Welder Qualification documentation
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to nonconformances and quality issues
  • Coordinate with production, engineering, purchasing, and operations teams to resolve manufacturing quality concerns
  • Manage calibration systems for inspection and measurement equipment
  • Lead internal, external, and customer audit activities while ensuring timely closure of findings
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing scrap, rework, delays, and quality escapes
  • Maintain quality records, reporting systems, and compliance documentation
  • Serve as a primary quality contact for customers, auditors, and third-party inspectors
  • Support plant safety initiatives and maintain compliance with company safety standards

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related field preferred

Experience

  • 5+ years of quality experience within a manufacturing or fabrication environment
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience managing quality personnel
  • Experience leading internal and external audits
  • Hands-on experience within welding, fabrication, or metal manufacturing operations
  • Experience with management review processes, KPI reporting, and corrective action systems

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, and manufacturing quality systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols
  • Experience with root cause analysis, audits, CAPA, and KPI reporting
  • Proficiency with inspection tools, spreadsheets, and quality documentation systems
