JOB INFORMATION:

Job Title:Asst Manager of Operations - GCT Containers
Department(s):5007 - COPS Yard & Vessel
Location(s):Garden City Terminal
FLSA Status:Exempt

JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Container Yard Manager, the Assistant Manager of Operations directly supervises, plans, organizes, coordinates, and evaluates all Container Operations service departments and personnel.

Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Ensures all Yard, Vessel, Gate, Control Center and Intermodal operations are run safely, efficiently, and within the parameters of the operating budget.
  • Coordinates with the Georgia Ports Authority Maintenance Department to ensure the availability of container handling equipment for service (production) demands as well as for preventive maintenance scheduling.
  • Oversees the scheduling of departmental employees.
  • Ensures proper training of employees to safely operate container handling equipment and relevant GPA computer systems.
  • Coordinates with external customers to ensure the Yard (Marine Terminal, CES Warehouse or Intermodal Container Transfer Facility) is organized and operated in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Makes plans to facilitate new business opportunities and analyzes operating methods.
  • Prepares evaluations for departmental employees. Conducts regular Safety and Business meetings with departmental employees.
  • Monitors Yard activities and production levels as required.
  • Assists with the preparation of the department's budget.
  • Assists with the preparation of department goals and implements procedures to accomplish those goals.
  • Ensures all employees perform their duties with the utmost concern for their safety, their equipment's upkeep, and the safety and well-being of those working on the Port.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to schedule, organize, and supervise the work of subordinates.Ability to exercise prompt independent judgment.Ability to learn and manage the GPA computer systems.Excellent oral, written, and listening skills required.Ability to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers, representatives of the shipping industry, and the general public required.
