JOB INFORMATION:

Job Title:Asst Manager of Operations - Cranes
Department(s):5016 - Container Cranes
Location(s):Garden City Terminal

JOB OVERVIEW:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Crane Operations, the Assistant Manager of Operations implements work programs and plans as directed by the Manager of Crane Operations.

Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Schedules the daily work of the employees and equipment.
  • Establishes priorities for work to be completed.
  • Checks individual work sites and activities to insure compliance with the Georgia Ports Authority procedural and safety guidelines.
  • Trains and counsels employees.
  • Inspects cranes to ensure safe operation.
  • Handles employee inquiries, vacation requests, and problems.
  • Ensures all cargo is handled in the most expeditious and economical manner.
  • Analyzes workload and authorizes necessary overtime in conjunction with the manager.
  • Completes/verifies time sheets.
  • Supplies daily, weekly, and monthly reports pertaining to cranes and personnel.
  • Supplies daily, weekly, and monthly reports pertaining to production, downtime, current status and events pertaining to operations.
  • Holds regular meetings with crane personnel to discuss safety and general crane operation and specific or general instructions.
  • Maintains daily communication with crane operators regarding the status of vessel operations, dock work, and various work sites.
  • Communicates daily with crane maintenance regarding status of open work orders on cranes for prioritization.
  • Manages crane operator logs for accuracy and billing.
  • Verifies daily that cranes are tied off and paced according to vessel docking placement.
  • Communicates daily with ship operations concerning vessel placement, amount of work, docking, sailing, and overall operations.
  • Maintains records and procedures for operator training and evaluation.
  • Investigates all incidents, maintaining records for root cause, analysis and prevention.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
General working knowledge of heavy equipment and the capacities and capabilities of rigging.Knowledge of regulations governing cranes and maintenance of cranes necessary.Good physical condition required.Ability and willingness to climb and work at high elevations essential.Ability and willingness to work all shifts (nights, weekends, holidays).Must be able to perform well in a strong team environment.Excellent oral, written, and listening skills required.Ability to deal effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as customers, representatives of the shipping industry and the general public required.
