Job description

A full-service product development consultancy specializing in medical devices, robotic systems, and automation is hiring a Senior Software Engineer focused on Robotics and Physical AI Integration. This engineer will own the integration layer between AI/ML models and the physical systems they control.
In this role, you will build software spanning industrial fieldbus communication, robot controllers, embedded interfaces, machine vision, and real-time control loops. You will partner with machine learning, embedded, hardware, and mechanical engineers to define inference contracts, latency budgets, interface requirements, and safe, reliable system behavior.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of systems or robotics software engineering experience shipping software that controls physical hardware in production
Strong proficiency in C and C++, with Python experience for tooling, scripting, and test automation
Hands-on experience with ROS or ROS 2, including nodes, services, actions, launch systems, parameters, tf2, and hardware interfaces
Experience integrating industrial robot controllers from vendors such as FANUC, KUKA, ABB, Universal Robots, or Yaskawa/Motoman
Production experience with at least one industrial fieldbus protocol such as EtherCAT, CANopen, Modbus, or Profinet
Experience with embedded interfaces including SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and GPIO, plus signal-level debugging
Experience with real-time Linux or an RTOS and an understanding of latency, scheduling, jitter, and determinism
Desired Skills & Experience
Experience integrating machine vision systems and working with OpenCV, GigE Vision, USB3 Vision, or similar technologies
Knowledge of motion control concepts including servo tuning, trajectory generation, path planning, and force/torque control
Experience using ML inference runtimes such as TFLite, ONNX, or TensorRT within control or perception pipelines
Exposure to Gazebo, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, MoveIt, or other simulation and digital twin environments
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related field
What You Will Be Doing
Daily Responsibilities
100% Hands On
Design and implement software that connects ML inference outputs to motion controllers, servo drives, actuators, industrial I/O, and robot controllers
Develop ROS 2 nodes, hardware abstraction layers, device drivers, and industrial communication stacks
Build real-time and near-real-time control loops on Linux and RTOS targets while managing latency and determinism requirements
Integrate machine vision and camera systems, including acquisition pipelines, calibration, and downstream control logic
Create hardware-in-the-loop and integration test infrastructure and troubleshoot issues across software, firmware, hardware, and system interfaces
The Offer
Hybrid schedule with 2-3 days onsite per week in Wilmington, Massachusetts
You will receive the following benefits
Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
Flexible Paid Time Off, Sick Leave, and Bereavement Time
401(k) with a 3% employer contribution regardless of employee contributions
6 Weeks of Fully Paid Parental Leave with support from state PFML programs
Regular Company and Team Events
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis now and in the future.
