Title: Non-Profit Tax Manager

Position Statement
The Non-Profit Tax Manager will be responsible for applying industry-specific knowledge to manage tax compliance, planning, research, and advisory services for a diverse group of nonprofit organizations including tax-exempt organizations, foundations, charities, and credit unions. This role will oversee assigned nonprofit tax engagements, review Form 990 and Form 990-T returns, supervise and develop engagement team members, and serve as a primary contact for client questions related to nonprofit tax matters. This individual will focus on four major initiatives established by the firm: Profitability, Practice Growth; Client Focus; and Brand Culture/Development.
Tasks
  • Manage assigned nonprofit tax engagements, including project oversight, engagement planning, team coordination, and timely delivery of client work.
  • Perform detailed review of Form 990, Form 990-T and related tax returns and work with the team to deliver a high-quality product to clients.
  • Engage with clients to understand their specific needs and provide responsive, practical guidance on nonprofit tax matters.
  • Plan and review tax processes and procedures to achieve engagement management metrics.
  • Identify when research is needed and perform technical research that provides clear and concise analysis and recommendations.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes and industry trends impacting nonprofit organizations to ensure compliance and relevance.
  • Consult and respond to assistance requests from other GBQ offices on nonprofit tax issues that arise.

Profitability
  • Contribute to the GBQ nonprofit tax team by supporting strategic initiatives aimed at developing people, improving processes, and supporting revenue growth.
  • Consistently achieve targets for realization, utilization and collection of A/R established by department.
  • Assist in establishing and implementing policies that improve departmental processes and efficiencies.
  • Consistently utilize all firm and department software efficiently.
  • Manage multiple clients and deliver a high-quality product in a timely manner that meets or exceeds clients� expectations and internal deadlines.

  • Support marketing efforts with nonprofit tax knowledge and technical guidance to help attract and retain business.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills when working with clients, prospects, and firm associates.

Work Experience|Education
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field.
  • CPA certification required.
  • Approximately 5-7 years of prior relevant nonprofit tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience.
  • Strong experience managing tax engagements and supervising teams and/or projects.
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite and strong working knowledge of tax research and compliance software.
  • Ability to manage multiple prominent work projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to delegate work as needed and provide coaching and feedback to team members.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Reliable transportation for on-site client work. Ability to be on-site at a client or GBQ office as needed.
  • The ability to work evenings and weekends based on time of year and client demands.

Organizational Relationships
  • Will report directly to Director, Tax & Advisory or other designated Performance Manager.
