Job description

Amaze, Inspire, Unite
Job Summary:
The Coordinating Producer will lead day-to-day operations and long-term planning for the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings telecasts, as both teams enter a new, unique partnership with Major League Baseball. This role is responsible for leading the production team, fostering strong collaboration across IS+E departments, and serving as the primary liaison with MLB and NHL partners. The ideal candidate is well-equipped to help deliver informative, entertaining, and fan-first content in our game broadcasts, continuing our track record of top-rated broadcasts across both sports.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the central liaison between on-air talent, production crews, internal IS+E stakeholders (sales, marketing, communications, community relations, digital/social media), and external partners at MLB and NHL for scheduling, planning, and execution of 140+ Tigers telecasts (starting 2026) and 70+ Red Wings telecasts (starting 2026-27).
  • For Tigers broadcasts: Coordinate closely with MLB on all production elements - including talent integration, graphics, pre-/post-game content, and distribution - ensuring seamless alignment with organizational branding, fan experience goals, and the MLB-led production model.
  • For Red Wings broadcasts: Provide direct oversight of full production (pre-game, in-game, post-game), guiding the producer, director, technical staff, and support personnel while leveraging MLB assistance where applicable.
  • Develop and maintain broadcast standards, game formats, scripts, production calendars, and organizational procedures that support consistency and excellence across both telecasts.
  • Lead pre-production planning, editorial meetings, and the creation/review of animations, graphics, edited video packages, and other elements sourced from internal video teams, outside vendors, and league partners.
  • Ensure all broadcasts meet editorial, technical, operational, and compliance standards while integrating team marketing, branding, and sponsorship campaigns in ways that enhance content value.
  • Partner with the media sales team to manage in-game sponsored inventory, maintain an up-to-date integration log, and ensure every partner activation adds meaningful value to the viewer experience.
  • Conduct regular reviews with talent, producers, directors, and crew to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and implement continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a hands-on secondary/tertiary producer for select games across both sports to stay closely connected to the crew, identify pain points, and drive real-time solutions.
  • Assist with problem-solving and troubleshooting during live broadcasts, escalating issues to management as appropriate.
  • Work closely with Operations and Technical teams to ensure production needs are clearly communicated and met.
  • Contribute to the television production budget process, including season-long estimates, ongoing expense tracking, and adherence to financial targets.
  • Champion innovation in broadcast storytelling, graphics, data integration, and fan engagement features to elevate the viewer experience in a rapidly evolving media landscape.
  • Oversee content creation and integration across platforms, guiding feature producers and collaborating with digital/social teams to extend broadcast reach and engagement.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in Broadcasting, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in live sports television production, with at least some background producing or coordinating MLB and/or NHL broadcasts strongly preferred.
  • Proven leadership and project-management skills; ability to prioritize, multitask, and thrive in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills; comfortable working across departments and with external league partners.
  • Deep knowledge of MLB and NHL rules, broadcasting best practices, and current industry trends (including specific enhancement with priority on streaming/DTC models).
  • Technical proficiency with production tools (cameras, switchers, editing systems, graphics platforms, codecs, etc.) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret broadcast metrics and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a passion for sports storytelling and fan-first content.
