SS&E owns and operates the San Antonio Spurs (NBA), Austin Spurs (NBA G-League), and the San Antonio FC (USL), and manages day-to-day operations of the Frost Bank Center, Toyota Field and STAR Complex.

We're hiring Youth Basketball Coaches at our March 18th hiring event, offering motivated individuals the opportunity to grow their careers in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. Hiring event will be located at our Impact Center. Please apply directly prior to the hiring event.
The Spurs Youth Sports Coach is a part-time position responsible for facilitating year-round camps and clinics hosted by Spurs Sports Academy (SSA). Programming takes place across various Spurs markets, including San Antonio, Austin, South Texas, Mexico, and additional regions. Camps are typically held Monday through Friday during designated camp weeks, while clinics are primarily scheduled in the evenings or on weekends.
This position operates on a week-by-week basis and is dependent on athlete registration and programming needs. Coaches may range in experience from former collegiate athletes to individuals with middle school, high school, or college coaching experience.
Youth Sports Coaches serve as ambassadors of Spurs Sports & Entertainment and are the primary point of interaction for athletes and their families. They are expected to model professionalism, enthusiasm, and integrity while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
Success in this role requires strong communication and people skills, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. A passion for learning, innovation, and delivering an exceptional participant experience is essential, along with a genuine commitment to fostering the growth and development of young athletes on and off the court.
What You'll Do:
  • Teach and instruct basketball skills aligned with the Spurs Sports Academy (SSA) curriculum, adapting coaching techniques to meet the individual needs of athletes and helping each participant build their skillset, grow their game, and improve overall gameplay and performance in competitive events.

  • Support the Manager and Associate Director in the execution of all youth sports programs, including camps, clinics, small group or private skills training, community outreach initiatives, and Spurs gameday experiences.

  • Assist with youth tournaments, including on-site score collection, bracket updates, and support of game operations.

  • Complete timely and accurate evaluations of assigned participants as required. Serve as a mentor by promoting Spurs Values and encouraging the development of strong character, leadership, and positive behavior both on and off the court.

  • Model and maintain a high level of professionalism in appearance, communication, and coaching behavior. Represent Spurs Sports & Entertainment in all interactions with athletes, families, staff, and the public.

  • Supervise and inspire athletes ages 6-18 in a safe, structured, and inclusive environment. Foster an atmosphere that supports skill development, confidence, teamwork, and a love for the game.

  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned to support the success of SSA youth programs and events.

Who You Are:
  • 18 years or older

  • Must be available to attend required staff meetings and fulfill the work schedule and responsibilities assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in a related field is preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals, gameplay, and officiating standards across various age groups and skill levels, with a preferred familiarity in court operations.

  • Must be willing and able to travel locally across various Spurs markets, including Austin, South Texas, and Mexico.

  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility to assist with all aspects of program execution, including setup, load-in and load-out of program host sites, check-in, customer service, coaching, and support for special appearances or events.

  • Must demonstrate professionalism and maintain confidentiality while working with diverse individuals and managing sensitive situations.

  • The ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and contribute positively to overall program goals.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must successfully complete reference checks and pass a background screening process.

Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally able to Lift and Carry 25 plus pounds.
  • Constantly able to work outdoor events in hot, cold, wet, or windy conditions throughout the duration of the shift.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs in an arena and outdoor stadium setting throughout the duration of the shift.
  • Constantly be able to stand and/or walk for long periods in extreme conditions for the duration of assigned shift.
  • Occasionally bending and kneeling to complete work.
