Job description

Job Summary

The Director of Risk Management is responsible for leading the organization's approach to identifying, assessing, and reducing risk across clinical and operational environments. This role partners closely with Quality, Clinical, Operational, and Legal leadership to build a proactive, data-driven risk management program that advances patient safety and organizational performance. This position emphasizes front-end risk prevention, system-level thinking, and cross-functional leadership, while ensuring effective coordination with claims and insurance activities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 2 - 4 years leadership experience in healthcare required
  • Current Georgia Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) is preferred.
  • Compliance, legal, internal audit, risk management or similar regulatory/investigatory role experience required
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and translate insights into action preferred.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with clinical, legal, and operational teams preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an integrated risk management strategy aligned with patient safety and organizational priorities
  • Identify system-level risks and translate findings into actionable operational improvements
  • Serve as a key advisor to leadership on risk trends and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis processes
  • Identify trends and emerging risks through data analysis and reporting
  • Partner with clinical and operational leaders to reduce preventable harm and improve outcomes
  • Collaborate with Quality and Patient Safety teams to align risk management efforts with clinical excellence initiatives
  • Support development of programs that strengthen a culture of safety and accountability
  • Partner with legal counsel on claims management processes and case review
  • Ensure risk insights inform claims strategy and organizational learning
  • Support administration of self-insurance and related programs
  • Establish and maintain systems for tracking, trending, and reporting risk data
  • Provide regular reporting and insights to senior leadership
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across Risk, Quality, Legal, and Operations
  • Influence stakeholders at all levels without direct authority
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and shared accountability
