Job description

MRC Global serves the oil and gas industry across the upstream, midstream and downstream sectors as well as the chemical and gas distribution market sectors worldwide.
Job Purpose
Responsible for delivering responsive and committed technical support to internal and external customers; accountable for category management and sourcing strategy, developing costing for bid packages, offering sourcing solutions and assistance with specialized technical product knowledge and costing, and maintaining vendor relationships (i.e. gas distribution material, etc.).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (not all inclusive)
Individual must be able to perform the essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • An individual will become an essential part of the team of technical experts within the gas materials supply chain.
  • The ability to function as part of a high-performing team is critical.
  • Manage key vendor relationships.
  • Interact with key end-user gas utility customers.
  • Provide technical support to Operations, Marketing, and Sales regarding specification of gas distribution materials, meters, regulators, risers, prefabricated meter sets, PE Pipe, PE fittings, etc.
  • Understand and determine customer technical needs, requirements, and expectations to recommend specific gas materials, products, and solutions.
  • Provide customer insight to product lines and current market supply situations for various gas materials, commodities, and manufacturers.
  • Coordinate with customers about material requirements needed for the annual planned work and forecast development.
  • Assist Sales and Operations teams in developing project bids, special pricing, negotiations with manufacturers, sharing sourcing knowledge, various product options, and customer interaction.
  • Provide local leadership and direction for the Supply Chain organization, with Global direction from the Corporate SCM group.
  • Develop and maintain category management plans with knowledge of specific gas material commodity knowledge and market information.
  • Assist branches in developing project bids with sourcing knowledge and options, special pricing, and negotiations with manufacturers.
  • Assist with maintaining various pricing records and databases, including stock transactions, price catalogs, customer lists, product catalogs, and discounts.
  • Jointly develop and maintain gas product inventory strategies in alignment with corporate goals.
  • Establish rapport and provide prompt responses to internal and external customers, vendors, and branch inquiries about material specifications and the procurement function.
  • Support specific initiatives in development and execution.
  • Be prepared to create and execute analyses necessary to advance various strategic initiatives, including market sizing, vendor profiling, competitor profiling, customer account analysis, and profitability analysis of goods and services.
  • Work closely with manufacturers and internal resources in support of sales growth and promotion of key manufacturers.
  • Assist in setting up the correct description of all inventory items; add new inventory to the system as needed; ensure standard nomenclature classification is maintained.
  • Travel as needed to manufacturer sites, customers, and trade shows.
  • Promote a safe workplace by visibly participating, encouraging, and considering safety in every aspect of daily activity.
  • Take reasonable care for the safety and health of yourself and others, and report workplace hazards, injuries, or illnesses immediately.

Education, Experience & Ability Requirements
Any combination of requirements which provide knowledge and abilities necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities will be considered.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work/industry experience in engineering and gas materials.
  • At least 5 years of experience in support of gas distribution utility materials.
  • MUST have demonstrated product knowledge as it relates to gas distribution materials specifications, specifically gas utility material.
  • Any combination of five or more years in customer service, inside sales, and/or warehouse services in a position with increasing responsibility, including demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of computers and software applications.

  • Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently to communicate with others, understand and interpret safety instructions, and respond to inquiries.
  • Ability to understand and comply with MRC Global guidelines & expectations, to include Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest guidelines.
