Job description

Position Summary
The Category Manager, IT will manage one or more larger procurement spend categories, including, but not necessarily limited to the entire portfolio of Technology spend (which includes cloud and SaaS platforms, enterprise software and network infrastructure, cybersecurity and data protection, AI and machine learning platforms, IT professional services, and AV equipment and services) while ensuring appropriate strategic alignment of the designated portfolios of assigned team members. Conduct periodic IT portfolio analysis and develop appropriate strategies by identifying the value or financial impact to the University and level of supply risk. Engage stakeholders to understand and meet the needs and goals of the business unit and how procurement can support those goals. Analyze spend data to determine pricing inconsistencies, savings opportunities, and consolidation and demand management opportunities. Measure and manage supplier performance relative to contracted service levels. Identify and resolve supplier performance issues. Develop, manage, and lead team members.
Qualifications
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Finance, Economics, or Supply Chain or Master's Degree
Required Experience:
5+ years of procurement experience, including experience with procurement, contract negotiation, customer relationship management (including executive management) and supplier relationship management. Experience with eProcurement technologies.
Preferred Experience:
3+ years Experience with IT category management, strategic sourcing and competitive price analysis. Experience managing other procurement professionals.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to develop data-driven category analysis including relevant market insight, supplier understanding, and spend analysis. Demonstrated ability to develop deep category-specific expertise, and define and document key stakeholder business requirements. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple spend categories, including management of supplier relationships and diverse supplier programs; manage the contract lifecycle including contract renewals and compliance management; develop deep, sustainable customer relationships; and develop category strategies in collaboration with strategic sourcing resources. Proven ability to understand procurement operations, including payables process. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact in a cross-functional environment with all levels of management. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint and Excel. Working proficiency with data visualization and analytics tools (e.g., Tableau). Demonstrated ability to understand financial and departmental goals and develop plans that align with those goals.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) preferred. IT-specific credentials such as IAITAM Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM) a plus.
Additional Information
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $120,000.00 to USD $140,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
