About Us
Middle Georgia State University (MGA), a multi-campus, baccalaureate and graduate degree-granting public institution, is the most affordable public state university in Georgia. MGA has five campuses-Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman, and Warner Robins, all located in central Georgia-and global outreach through its fully-online campus. Its enrollment of 8,400 students is largely comprised of students from most of Georgia's 159 counties. The University has six academic schools, including Georgia's flagship aviation program, that support its mission to educate and graduate inspired, lifelong learners whose scholarship and careers enhance the state.
Job Summary
The Graduate Assistant (GA) provides support to departments, programs, or faculty through research, teaching, or professional activity. This role offers experience related to the student's field of study while contributing to the University's academic and operational mission.
Responsibilities
Office Duties:
  • Providing support in academic or administrative offices (e.g., Graduate School, Advising, Libraries, Student Affairs).
  • Coordinating events, workshops, or outreach programs.
  • Managing records, databases, or communications (newsletters, social media).
  • Advising or mentoring undergraduate students in academic or student success programs.

Research Support (if applicable)
  • Conducting literature reviews and data collection.
  • Running experiments, simulations, or fieldwork.
  • Assisting with data entry, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Helping prepare manuscripts, reports, or conference presentations.
  • Supporting grant applications and progress reports.

General Duties:
  • Assists with projects, programs, or services that support the University's mission.
  • Contributes to the daily operations of the assigned department or unit.
  • Completes tasks and assignments as directed by supervisors in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintains effective communication and collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be fully admitted to graduate program at Middle Georgia State University with Regular Admission Status as identified by the Graduate School in the initial acceptance letter.
  • For each semester of an assistantship, a student must provide proof of insurance and register for a minimum of six hours of graduate course work leading to a Masters or Doctoral degree.
  • A graduate assistant must also maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and may not have received less than a "B" in any previous graduate course prior to an application for an assistantship.
  • Note: Graduate teaching assistants will need 18 hours of 5000-level credit or above in the area of instruction.
