UN Foundation’s global health advocacy team champions American investments in global health as a smart, effective, and cost-effective way to protect the health of people around the world while benefitting the health prosperity of Americans here at home. The global health advocacy team has three core brands: Shot@Life, which advocates for global immunization programs; United to Beat Malaria, which advocates for global malaria elimination; and HealthForUS, which advocates holistically for American engagement and investment in global health.

JOB SUMMARY

The Grassroots Advocacy Manager leads grassroots engagement for global health campaigns, including champion (volunteer activist) recruitment, training, and cultivation, partnership management, and coordination of broader advocacy efforts in close collaboration with the Global Health Advocacy team and the Director of Grassroots Advocacy.

The Grassroots Advocacy Manager will also support wider global health advocacy priorities, including grassroots and direct advocacy efforts across Shot@Life, United to Beat Malaria, and Health for US, in close collaboration with the Global Health Advocacy team and the Director of Grassroots Advocacy.

This position is based in Washington, DC (Hybrid schedule).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Grassroots Advocacy Strategy and Implementation

  • Support the Grassroots Advocacy Director and the Advocacy team with identifying Congressional targets, setting annual advocacy goals, and implement strategies to engage grassroots champions in support of those priorities
  • Contribute to the development and execution of grassroots advocacy strategies, while monitoring progress against established goals, metrics, and results frameworks to ensure alignment with Global Health Advocacy priorities and grant commitments
  • Maintain accurate advocacy action data and ensure the integrity of the advocacy reporting database
  • Analyze results to identify trends and help inform adjustments to grassroots engagement strategies as needed

Champion Cultivation and Development

  • Execute grassroots advocacy education and mobilization activities throughout the year, including the annual in-person Summit, virtual trainings, and in-district meetings and events
  • Recruit, cultivate, and manage grassroots advocacy Champions who lead awareness-building and advocacy efforts across the country
  • Coordinate and support in-district advocacy trainings and congressional meetings, with particular attention to priority congressional districts
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for grassroots supporters across Shot@Life, United to Beat Malaria, and Health for US, and partner with Advocacy and Communications colleagues to elevate grassroots success stories, particularly in targeted areas

Annual Leadership Summit

  • Manage logistics and execution for the annual joint Summit and Hill Day with Shot@Life, United to Beat Malaria, and Health for US, including agenda development, session planning, speaker coordination, staff role assignments, and overall program flow
  • Oversee event operations for virtual and in-person needs, including vendor coordination, venue or production support, meeting space management, champion accommodations, and other key logistical functions
  • Partner with the Communications team to develop and execute promotional plans, digital content, and program assets, including registration and event pages, email and social media communications, videos, graphics, slide decks, and Summit branding aligned with the program theme
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for Global Health grassroots champions and staff, supporting session preparation, talking points, and champion readiness for the Summit and related engagements with congressional offices

In District Grassroots Advocacy, Events and Engagement

  • Manage logistics and agenda development for regional trainings and events designed to equip and mobilize Champions to lead in-district congressional meetings
  • Partner with the Direct Advocacy and Global Health Communications teams to support in-district events by securing congressional participation, developing materials and tools, and preparing assets for meetings, media op-eds, and champion-led activities
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for advocacy champions supporting campaign fundraising efforts, while also working with Advocacy and Communications colleagues to elevate grassroots success stories on campaign platforms and with external partners

Advocacy Partnership Management and Outreach

  • Support outreach to prospective advocacy and grassroots partners, including potential grantees, with a focus on expanding champion-building efforts and strengthening the advocacy partnership portfolio through events, conferences, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Manage ongoing communication and support for grassroots partners, including development of campaign materials and event collateral, coordination of partner-facing needs, and assistance with grant-related requirements
  • Maintain working knowledge of UNF’s agreement processes, including the appropriate use of contract and grant templates, and stay current on applicable policies and procedures
  • Draft, review, process, and track agreements in Salesforce, maintain familiarity with key terms and flow-down requirements, and prepare related reports as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

The Manager, Grassroots Advocacy, Global Health Advocacy is not a supervisory role.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION and/or EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience
  • Five years of relevant experience with a track record of success in volunteer and partnership management, grassroots advocacy and mobilization for an issue-driven initiative
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally across in-person, virtual, and written settings
  • Experience drafting clear, audience-appropriate written materials in support of advocacy or engagement efforts, including outreach communications, meeting requests, event promotion, and related collateral
  • Experience engaging and building relationships with diverse constituencies, including community-based groups, students, families, faith-based organizations, or other advocacy audiences
  • Experience with Asana, EveryAction and Salesforce databases are a preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a nonpartisan environment and build productive relationships across diverse political perspectives; experience engaging with congressional offices or government stakeholders preferred
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and strong project ownership, with the ability to work independently, collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and support event execution
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to the UN Foundation’s mission and global health advocacy priorities, including United to Beat Malaria, Shot@Life, and Health for US

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated reliability and consistent attendance in accordance with organizational expectations
