Job description

About ScholarshipOwl
ScholarshipOwl is the largest scholarship marketplace in the US, using AI to connect 14 million students who are looking for scholarships with companies that are looking for students. Our mission is to make education financing more accessible and engaging, while giving brands a way to connect with the next generation.
We're powered by AI technology that simplifies scholarship discovery, streamlines the application process, and delivers measurable results for both students and partners. Whether it's helping students secure funding or enabling brands to run impactful campaigns, we're reshaping how education is funded-and discovered.
The Role
We are looking for a Director of Marketing who is a "Scrappy Architect"-someone who is allergic to corporate bureaucracy but addicted to building high-output systems. You will be the technical and operational linchpin responsible for turning our marketing "mess" into a unified revenue engine.
This is a high-impact leadership position where you will own the global narrative for two distinct audiences: Gen Z students (B2C) and Brand Partners (B2B). You aren't just a manager; you are a builder who knows how to design a lean team of A-player contractors and student ambassadors to execute a world-class strategy. If you can speak "Gen Z" on Discord and "ROI" to a CMO in the same hour, this is the role for you.
What You'll Do
  • Narrative Architecture: Own the global brand voice 100%. You will define how we speak to students and brands, ensuring that every touchpoint-from in-app copy to B2B pitch decks-is cohesive, trust-based, and high-impact.
  • Experiential & Growth Initiatives: Lead unconventional, high-impact brand activations. You'll find creative, cost-effective ways to make the brand "felt" in person and online, prioritizing scrappy guerrilla efforts over traditional, high-cost advertising.
  • Hybrid Team Orchestration: Design the marketing organization. You'll decide what to build internally and what to outsource, managing a distributed network of specialized contractors, PR partners, and student creators.
  • Commercial Strategy Support: Act as a strategic partner to the Sales team. You will translate complex student engagement data into compelling "Revenue Stories" and partner-facing assets that prove the value of our first-party data.
  • Community & Ambassador Scaling: Build and lead our "Ambassador" strategy. You will turn our massive student user base into a motivated creative engine, utilizing community platforms to drive organic acquisition and long-term loyalty.

What We're Looking For
  • The "Bilingual" Storyteller: You can effortlessly switch between Gen Z cultural nuances and B2B ROI discussions. You understand that "trust" is our most valuable currency.
  • US Cultural Fluency: While we are a global team, you must have a deep, nuanced understanding of US culture. You need to know what resonates with a US college student without sounding like a "corporate brand."
  • Structured Scrappiness: You are "allergic" to corporate bureaucracy but "addicted" to systems. You have a track record of entering a high-growth environment and building the playbooks for how things get done.
  • High Agency / Low Ego: You are a leader who isn't "above" the work. If a contractor flakes or a PR opportunity arises at 11 PM, you have the skills to jump in and rewrite the copy or fix the strategy yourself.
  • AI-Native: AI fluency is a core cultural pillar here. You must already use LLMs heavily in your daily workflow and be fearless about using AI as a force multiplier to keep the team lean.
  • Operational Agility: You thrive in a "messy" startup environment. You are someone who builds the playbook while the engine is running, creating structure without needing 60-minute alignment meetings.
Bonus Skills
  • Background in B2B SaaS, EdTech, or AdTech/MarTech.
  • Experience building and managing Discord communities or campus ambassador programs.
  • Proven track record in a bootstrapped environment where you had to grow revenue without a massive corporate budget.
  • Experience managing remote, distributed teams of both full-time employees and specialized contractors.
Why Join ScholarshipOwl?
  • Mission-Driven Work - Build technology that helps students unlock education opportunities.
  • Fully Remote - Work from anywhere while collaborating with a global team.
  • High Impact & Ownership - Small team, big challenges, real autonomy.
  • Unlimited PTO - Take time when you need it; we trust you.
  • Coworking Budget - $200/month to invest in your ideal coworking workspace.
  • Continuous Learning Culture - We support curiosity, experimentation, and growth.
  • Annual Company Off-sites - Meet your teammates in person and connect beyond the screen.
