Child Watch Coordinator Job Description

Position Summary

Assist in providing support in our Child Watch program with leadership and motivation under the supervision of the Program Director. Ensures a safe, caring, and fun learning environment for children ages 6 weeks to 7 years while parents are utilizing the YMCA facilities. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Provide support in planning part time staff interviews and trainings.

Assist in recruiting and supervising volunteers to assist with programming support.

Plan and organize age appropriate activities. Play actively with the children. Adapt activities to the needs of each.

Monitor the health and socialization of children daily.

Assist with maintaining cleanliness and order in the child watch area.

Monitor the drop-off and pick-up of children to guarantee their safety while in our care.

Greet parents and help children feel welcome. Communicate regarding their child's behavior.

Monitor the day to day activities to maintain high quality operations to include safety, progress and fun.

Provide support with Child Watch operations to include meetings and office coordination.

Coordinate all parent communication and attend to all parent concerns ensuring appropriate communication and follow up through email, phone calls and in person interaction.

Assist in monitoring the Child Watch program to ensure quality standards are being met.

Provide support and assistance related to working with children's behaviors and interests.

Provide support in the supervision all part time instructors and volunteers.

Monitor monthly budget and make recommendations for adjustments to program director.

Provide administrative assistance including but not limited to the distribution, processing, and maintenance of all paperwork, records, reports, memos, correspondence, inventory, and resupply.

Maintain physical and/or electronic filing systems for all relevant information.

Meet performance measurement through annual giving, major gifts, and/or endowment by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.

One to two years related experience as a coordinator of people or activities preferred.

Ability to use computer and typical business software and office machines.

Demonstrated skills in customer service, public relations, organizational skills, communications, supervision, and file maintenance.

Positive attitude and previous experience with [preschool aged children] and diverse populations.

CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred.

Complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day. Complete other online and in-person training as required.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Occasionally may need to plan and participate in programming outdoors.
