Job description

Turner Staffing Group is seeking a Design Consultant/Engineer for our client to support the planning, design, and coordination of electrical distribution projects. This role serves as a key liaison between customers, contractors, engineers, and internal stakeholders to deliver safe, accurate, and cost-effective electrical facility designs while ensuring compliance with company standards and municipal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and collaborate with construction, engineering, land agents, survey teams, customers, contractors, developers, property owners, and other internal and external stakeholders to develop electrical facility designs that meet safety, quality, and engineering standards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the design process, maintaining clear communication with customers, contractors, developers, and project stakeholders.
  • Manage project expectations, including schedules, service level agreements, deliverables, costs, responsibilities, and safety requirements.
  • Partner closely with CAD Technicians by providing preliminary design sketches, establishing priorities and deadlines, monitoring progress, and reviewing completed drawings for accuracy and quality.
  • Utilize CAD tools to support and review electrical distribution designs.
  • Read, interpret, and apply a variety of plan sets and mapping resources, including electrical, civil, architectural, structural, geographic, municipal, and customer-provided documents.
  • Perform field visits to verify site conditions, validate reference maps, identify design constraints, and confirm project scope.
  • Independently prioritize workload and determine when projects are ready to advance through the design process.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and tracking using the Work Management System while ensuring compliance with established procedures.
  • Assign, monitor, and manage project milestones and due dates for internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee design activities specific to assigned business processes and ensure timely project completion.
  • Prepare material lists and inventories required for construction.
  • Calculate design and construction costs in accordance with company policies and prepare accurate design agreements and construction contracts.
  • Ensure designs comply with municipal permitting requirements, construction and engineering standards, engineering tools, and land rights requirements to facilitate successful permit approvals.
  • Assist with training and mentoring other design team members as needed.
  • Identify and resolve job-site hazards and encroachment issues.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrical distribution systems, including applicable components and conductor types.
  • Provide detailed project documentation, history, and technical knowledge as requested.
