Job description

Director of Construction Management Nemours Children’s Health - Delaware

Reporting to: VP, Transformation & Improvement / AVP, Project Management

Nemours Children’s Health is entering one of the most transformative periods in our history, fueled by the strength of the Nemours Foundation and our long record of financial stability. As we expand programs and facilities to serve the healthiest generation of children, we are investing in our people -- professionals who flourish in a collaborative culture, persevere through challenges, and want to be part of a story of growth.

We are seeking an experienced Director of Construction Management to help shape the future of our Delaware Valley facilities, including our historic $130+ million hospital expansion. This role offers the opportunity to lead critical projects that directly support Whole Child Health and our commitment to being the healthiest workforce --because the well‑being of our associates is the foundation of the care we provide.

About the Role

The Director of Construction Management oversees a team of construction project managers charged with managing all major construction and renovation projects across the Delaware Valley. This leader ensures alignment of project deliverables with safety, quality, and delivery standards; manages budgets; directs a high‑performing team; and partners across the organization to ensure a seamless experience for patients, families, and associates.

You will directly influence the success of our multi‑year growth strategy and ensure that every project supports the next chapter of Nemours Children’s excellence.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership
  • Direct the Construction Project Management function and drive effective delivery of mission‑critical projects.
  • Establish and monitor standards for project delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Lead and mentor Construction Project Managers and project support staff; invest in developing talent for organizational success.
  • Build strong relationships with hospital leadership, architects, engineers, contractors, and clinical partners.
Project and Operational Management
  • Oversee all construction and renovation projects, ensuring they are completed on schedule, on budget, and to specification.
  • Participate in Delaware Valley master planning, design facilitation, and vendor selection.
  • Coordinate day‑to‑day activities, including huddles with contractors, end users, and hospital teams to minimize disruptions to patient care.
  • Interpret and review construction documentation, drawings, and specifications; enforce compliance with healthcare codes and standards (NFPA 99, FGI, NFPA 101).
  • Maintain ICRA standards and collaborate closely with Safety and Infection Control.
  • Evaluate design documents for material standards, cost savings, and opportunities for innovation.
  • Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and cost estimates; present to senior leadership as needed.
Continuous Improvement & Workforce Development
  • Apply Continuous Improvement methodologies to enhance construction processes, team performance, and institutional goals.
  • Participate in hiring, staffing, coaching, and performance evaluations aligned with Nemours Children’s commitment to cultivating a healthy, thriving workforce.
  • Engage in department and institutional committees, projects, and educational initiatives to stay current with trends in healthcare construction.
A Role Central to Our Delaware Expansion

The Director of Construction Management will be deeply involved in Nemours Children’s Health’s largest one‑year capital investment in Delaware. This includes:

  • A groundbreaking Maternal and Fetal Health Program
New labor and delivery suites, antepartum/postpartum rooms, and operating rooms that expand our Advanced Delivery Program for high‑risk mothers and newborns.
  • Expansion of cancer, neonatology, and cardiology programs
The Lisa Dean Moseley Foundation Institute will feature state‑of‑the‑art, family‑centered design and expanded research and treatment capacity.
  • Revitalization of the historic Alfred I. duPont Institute
Preserving a treasured legacy while transforming it into a modern administrative hub.

Your leadership will ensure these projects support our mission—and that our facilities reflect the exceptional care our teams deliver.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of construction management experience in healthcare or similar complex environments.
  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams, budgets, contracts, and large‑scale capital projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and relationship‑building skills across all organizational levels.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare codes, standards, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to lead through change, inspire teams, and foster a culture where individuals and programs can flourish.
What We Offer
  • Medical, Dental and Vision - Four levels of medical coverage are available, including fertility care and prescription drugs for associates and their families.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) - PTO will accrue according to your role and length of service. There are six paid holidays annually, and one day of paid volunteer time off.
  • Paid Parental Leave - New parents receive 6 weeks of paid leave at 100% of pay.
  • Tuition Reimbursement - Reimbursement available on approved courses to maximum of $5,250.
  • Retirement Savings Plan - There is a 403(b) plan with immediate participation and matching contributions.
  • Basic Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance - Basic Life Insurance is paid equal to one time your annual salary, up to a maximum of $500,000.
  • Short- and Long-Term Disability - All associates are automatically covered by our short‑term disability coverage with income protection for disabilities caused by illness, accident or injury that are not work‑related, at 60% of your salary.
Why choose us?

Joining Nemours Children’s means joining a mission‑driven organization focused on Whole Child Health – the seven dimensions of wellness that encompass physical, emotional, social, and financial well‑being. We believe that becoming the healthiest workforce strengthens our ability to guide patients, families, and communities toward healthier futures.
