Job description

Under the direction of the Manager, Data Science, the Senior Data Engineer serves as a technical lead responsible for designing, architecting, and optimizing large-scale data platforms, pipelines, and analytics solutions that support the organization's analytics, reporting, and data science initiatives. Provides advanced expertise in data engineering, data integration, and data architecture, and collaborates with Information Technology (IT) departments, including Data Services, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Product teams, to ensure the scalability, reliability, security, and performance of the organization's data infrastructure. The Senior Data Engineer leads complex data engineering projects, establishes data standards and best practices, mentors technical staff, and assists management with the interpretation, evaluation, and strategic application of research data to support organizational decision-making.

This position is onsite 5 days per week in Highland, CA. There are no hybrid or remote accommodations available.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Monitors, identifies, designs, and implements internal process improvements to automate manual processes, optimize data delivery, and enhance data pipeline performance.
2. Partners with Information Technology (IT) departments, including Data Services, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and other technology teams, to ensure the organization's data science infrastructure operates efficiently and to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiencies.
3. Designs, develops, and maintains large, complex datasets that meet enterprise business requirements and support departmental and organizational objectives.
4. Creates, optimizes, and maintains data tools and platforms that enable analytics and data science team members to efficiently develop, deploy, and monitor analytical products and solutions.
5. Monitors and assists with the interpretation, evaluation, and integration of research and operational data; develop enterprise analyses, forecasts, and data-driven insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.
6. Promotes and supports compliance, data quality, security, and continuous learning initiatives by providing technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and mentorship to team members and stakeholders throughout the organization.
7. Performs other duties as assigned to support the ecient operation of the department.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative or technical field required. Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum four (4) years of Data Engineering or related experience required.

  • Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

  • Knowledge of data engineering, analytics, data governance, and enterprise data management principles.

  • Knowledge of finance, gaming, entertainment, hospitality, food and beverage operations is preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; experience with Microsoft Fabric preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in Structured Query Language, relational databases, data integration and transformation processes, and application programming interface utilization.

  • Advanced proficiency in Python and data engineering methodologies.

  • Advanced knowledge with business intelligence, enterprise reporting, and analytics platforms.

  • Advanced knowledge with cloud and server-based technologies.

  • Working knowledge of Statistical Analysis System software.

  • Ability to serve as an effective liaison between Information Technology teams and cross-functional business stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated skill in communication, problem-solving, interpersonal, customer service, analytical, organizational, and time-management skills, with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Ability to utilize artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to enhance productivity, efficiency, and continuous learning.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

  • At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

  • Mobility sufficient to safely move in an office environment, walk, stoop, bend and kneel, and enter, exit and operate a motor vehicle in the course of travel to promotional events, meetings, conferences, trade shows and San Manuel properties.

  • Endurance sufficient to sit, walk and stand for extended periods, and maintain efficiency throughout the entire work shift and during extended work hours.
