Job Summary/Purpose

Responsible for a project development team that supports the origination and project development of large power plant projects or programs of projects that are typically above $250M. Manage the expansion of the development pipeline through greenfield or brownfield project development activities; procurement of Owner’s Engineer and other project support services; negotiation of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contracts; and providing oversight of all front-end loading stages for combined cycle or simple cycle gas turbine projects to assure an effective hand-off to an oversight team for successful execution.

This individual is a leader with demonstrated experience in project development with commercial acumen and a strong advocate for the partnering process with key stakeholders including internal/external support groups across Entergy and contractor partners. This individual is responsible for the leadership needs of his/her cross-functional team; executing a development strategy; applying his/her technology understanding and experience; and building an effective relationship network with key internal and external individuals.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Organizes and leads an effective project development team that is focused on delivering generation projects that enable the enterprise to meet the stated commitments and generation resource needs in accordance with the applicable corporate standards and guidelines.  Understands the requirements and contributions of critical team positions and that of the key stakeholders.
  • Understands the roles of the Utility and regulators in project development and viability.
  • Manages the development of the project vision and execution philosophy, along with deliverables necessary to progress a project through a Stage Gate Project Lifecycle Process. 
  • Works closely with the regulatory functions to support the requirement of receiving the necessary certifications.
  • Utilizes Commercial Expertise to solidify commercial agreements and delivers successfully negotiated contracts with the partnership of key stakeholders.
  • Full understanding of the contractual aspects of projects and the need to create a contracting strategy that delivers superior economic performance and that can be executed safely, with high quality while delivering cost and schedule certainty. 
  • Support and/or lead contract negotiations for contracts and fulfill duties as contract manager or owner’s representative. 
  • Manages risks to ensure risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Develops critical relationships with key stakeholders and project contributors.
  • Provides clear, timely and accurate project status reports for management.
  • Promotes safe behavior, in accordance with Company expectations, and adherence to the safety rules on the project.
  • Mentorship and individual development of their team members. 

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field OR 4 years of equivalent related work experience (in addition to Minimum Experience requirement) in lieu of degree.

Preferred: Advanced Degree – MBA, Masters in Engineering, Construction, or Project Management.

Minimum experience required of the position

10 years of experience in Project Management, Construction Management, Electric Utility Industry, or related field. 

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position                                                       

  • Subject Matter Expert in project and construction management fundamentals and complicated project problem solutions.
  • History of safe performance, active safety involvement and participation and strong desire for a safer workplace.
  • Supervisory experience with direct reports or in a matrix organization.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and project management applications, processes, software and equipment.
  • Understanding of Industry Best Practices.
  • Demonstrated cross-functional project leadership experience, team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor.

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required of the position

  • Preferred: PMP (Project Management Professional certification)
  • Preferred: Advanced Degree
