Business Development Specialist

Location: Sherwood Park, Alberta

The Company

MSCP provides highly innovative technical and organizational solutions for Heat Management in the Energy sector. Founded in 2011, the company supports clients across Oil & Gas, Mining, Power Generation, Water Treatment, and other industrial markets through engineering, manufacturing, construction, and maintenance services.

The Market

Our clients operate complex industrial facilities where safety, reliability, and execution certainty are essential. Business Development plays a critical role in understanding client needs, identifying opportunities, and building long-term relationships that support sustainable growth. Success is achieved by creating value for clients while aligning opportunities with MSCP's technical capabilities and operational strengths.

The Model

MSCP operates using a genuinely systemic organizational model rather than a traditional hierarchical structure. Business Development is an integrated function that works collaboratively with Engineering, Estimating, Procurement, Manufacturing, Operations, and Project Management to ensure opportunities are aligned with our capabilities and strategic objectives.

Our approach emphasizes collaboration over silos and long-term partnerships over transactional sales. Business Development Specialists contribute by understanding client challenges, coordinating internal resources, and supporting opportunities from initial engagement through project award.

Success in this environment requires individuals who enjoy building relationships, solving problems, and working within a highly integrated organization.

The Position – Business Development Specialist

The Business Development Specialist supports MSCP's strategic growth by developing and maintaining client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and assisting with proposal development and opportunity management. Working closely with technical and operational teams, this role helps position MSCP as a trusted partner while supporting sustainable and profitable growth.

This position is ideal for an individual with industrial business development or account management experience who is looking to expand their commercial knowledge within a collaborative and innovative organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.

  • Identify, qualify, and help pursue new business opportunities across targeted industrial markets.

  • Coordinate client meetings, presentations, site visits, and follow-up activities.

  • Support the preparation of proposals, qualification packages, presentations, and client submissions.

  • Collaborate with Estimating, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, and Project Management to develop client-focused solutions.

  • Monitor bid opportunities, market activity, and industry trends.

  • Maintain accurate CRM records, opportunity pipelines, and client activity reports.

  • Conduct market and competitor research to identify strategic growth opportunities.

  • Represent MSCP professionally at industry events, networking functions, and client meetings.

  • Support account planning and relationship development activities with key clients.

  • Assist with post-award client transition by ensuring information is effectively communicated to project teams.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of business development processes and digital workflows.

  • Support MSCP's systemic methodology by ensuring business development activities contribute to organizational flow and long-term client success.

QualificationsEducation
  • Diploma, certificate, or degree in Business, Marketing, Commerce, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related discipline is considered an asset.

  • Equivalent combinations of education and practical industry experience will be considered.

Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in business development, account management, industrial sales, client relationship management, or a related commercial role.

  • Experience within industrial construction, engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, fabrication, or the energy sector is preferred.

  • Experience responding to RFPs, RFQs, and client qualification processes is considered an asset.

Knowledge & Skills
  • Excellent relationship-building and networking abilities.

  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.

  • Professional, confident, and customer-focused communication style.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Demonstrated initiative with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Experience using CRM platforms, Procore, or ERP systems is considered an asset.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.

  • Demonstrates curiosity, professionalism, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning.

What We Offer
  • Competitive compensation based on experience.

  • RRSP matching program after 6 months.
