Job description

The color match technician prepares and blends raw ingredients to batch specifications, operating mixing equipment for proper formulations. You will work with KURZ chemists, and printer operators in a collaborative environment, making confident, data-driven decisions. You will be responsible for the chemicals for silk-screen operations, monitoring production schedules, and supporting production and R&D needs. You'll ensure batches follow SOPs, maintain a clean work area, and accurately measure raw materials. Quality checks of blended inks, interpreting off-press results, and adjustments are crucial.

  • Mix accurate color formulations, meticulously measuring raw materials according to established specifications.
  • Monitor and maintain both physical and digital inventory levels of raw materials, aligning manufacturing forecasts with on-hand stock to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Prioritize safety by adhering to established protocols while handling and mixing chemicals. Uphold a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Work closely with KTP team communicating color requirements and translating creative vision into technical specifications.
  • Conduct a range of quality control tests, including measuring viscosity, moisture content, and color. Utilize advanced tools like spectrophotometers for precise color matching.
  • Prepare customer samples utilizing a proof press and drawdown screens, ensuring accurate color representation for client approval.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives, defining and implementing 5S projects to enhance efficiency and organization within the workplace.
  • Lead, assist, and participate in cross-training exercises, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable team environment.
  • Assist with R&D trials, contributing valuable insights into color formulation innovation.
  • Maintain meticulous and accurate paperwork and records of all inventory, production, and quality control activities.
  • Practice proper disposal of hazardous materials, adhering to all environmental regulations.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Abilities

Color Matching: Ability to meticulously measure raw materials and blend them according to color specifications.
Effective communication: Collaborate clearly with operators, helpers, and team members to ensure smooth production flow.
Math skills: Utilize basic math skills for tasks like interpreting production specifications
Quality control: Possess a keen eye for detail and the ability to distinguish colors precisely to conduct thorough quality inspections.
Safety compliance: Understanding and adherence to safety protocols for handling and mixing chemicals.
Physical abilities: Meet the physical demands of the role, including static pull strength of 84 lbs., push 60 lbs., lift 50 lbs.
Mobility: Climb steps frequently and maintain sustained focus for an extended periods.
Software Skills: intermediate Excel skills. Familiarity with basic computer software for record keeping and potentially inventory management systems.
Continuous improvement: Maintain a process optimization mindset.

  • A college degree (Chemistry, Color Science, Graphic Design, or a related science field) is preferred. High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic and intermediate math skills.
  • Color Matching experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with SAP/Microsoft Office.
