JOB DESCRIPTION
FOX's Media & Broadcast Cloud Engineering team is hiring a Staff Cloud Engineer with a strong engineering background to program elegant cloud infrastructure video solutions, drive technical adoption of cloud strategies, strive for operational excellence, and help define and advocate programming standards.
This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure, focusing on automation, security, and cost optimization. Utilizing their deep understanding of AWS and GCP cloud services, they advocate cloud engineering best practices, infrastructure as code, hybrid networking environments, continuous integration, automated monitoring, compliance adherence,
and effective communication strategies to both technical and non-technical team members.
The Staff Cloud Engineer meets regularly with customers as a technical thought leader to help implement modern cloud applications and video flows, including hybrid environments for broadcast delivery during daily operations and global events like the Super Bowl, World Cup, World Series, and US Elections. This role continuously investigates new technologies while designing and proposing
elegant technical cloud solutions that encompass security, resiliency, operational efficiency, cost savings, maintainability, and interoperability. This individual should be comfortable investigating and implementing emerging technologies and communicating opinions and guidance to the team on adoption or avoidance of what was explored.
A collaborative, peacemaker mindset is a must while fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement for the entire team. In addition to working with our internal business customers and external partners, the Staff Cloud Engineer works closely with the Director, Cloud Engineering to develop architectures, visualize workflows, and refine processes and policies.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITES
  • Develop and implement cloud solutions on AWS and GCP platforms based on approved architecture designs - including networking, security, storage, compute, and authentication infrastructure components for both internal business customers and cloud team toolchains
  • Serve as project execution leader - estimating level of effort, breaking down work into tasks, and mentoring junior engineers with technical guidance to deliver projects on time and on budget using programming best practices
  • Work with architecture leaders to strategically plan and design cloud solutions that address diverse business needs of our customers, while managing risk around security, networking, authentication/authorization, and account structures dealing in both cloud-only and hybrid (on-prem) environments
  • Collaborate with cloud engineers to understand, challenge, and communicate cloud architectures, ensuring the best practices and patterns are being followed - adapting to any necessary deviations from the original design (changing business requirements, unforeseen technical limitations, etc)
  • Automate cloud deployments and infrastructure provisioning using tools like Terragrunt, Terraform, Python, and Ansible
  • Ensure the security of the cloud environments, including account management, access controls, firewalls, and threat detection
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within cloud infrastructure and applications
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure for both performance and costs - identifying bottlenecks, implementing performance improvements, optimizing costs based on resource allocation and utilization data), and creating dashboards and alerting mechanisms as needed
  • Perform post-incident analysis to identify root causes and potential workarounds/solutions
  • Provide thought leadership around industry technology trends and infrastructure as code programming best practices
  • Create select POCs to test design patterns and technical approaches for key initiatives
  • Discover, investigate, and propose ways of saving money for the company while meeting service level agreements
  • Participate in team architecture review meetings, project kickoffs, and project post-mortems
  • Be fluid and open to change around evolving business requirements, processes, and tools

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • Deep understanding of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) including security, networking, IAM, authentication protocols, account management and application services
  • Proven experience solving capacity challenges by utilizing dynamic scaling using containerization and/or serverless approaches, ensuring high availability and reliability with redundancy, and leveraging services like Direct Connect and/or AWS Outposts for hybrid connectivity
  • Understand and implement various infrastructure architecture models (like centralized vs distributed) to define how resources, data, and processes are organized and managed within an organization's IT infrastructure - building and maintaining IT systems that are scalable, reliable, and secure
  • Mastery of AWS Well Architected Framework principles
  • Expert with troubleshooting and root cause analysis
  • Ability to analyze systems with a high degree of detail and impact awareness
  • Hands-on experience with at least 2 programming languages (Python, Java, C++, etc.) and experience writing infrastructure as code using Terragrunt and/or Terraform; our hands-on technical test requires both Python and Terraform
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proven experience with building deployment pipelines and enabling self-service
  • Strong teamwork and willingness to collaborate with others
  • Comfortable working with engineers to introduce new technologies and resolve technical challenges

  • BS or equivalent
  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps, SysAdmin, Networking, and/or Security certifications
  • Google Cloud Platform and/or Azure Cloud knowledge
  • Experience in the Media & Entertainment field
  • Other certifications (CCIP, CCIE, Terraform, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, etc.)

SCHEDULE/SHIFT (add any nuances such as holidays, weekends, overnights, being on-call, etc)
  • Coverage during some NFL Sundays and other marquee live events throughout the year
  • Possible travel a few times per year to our Los Angeles and/or New York locations

This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents.
