PDS Certification Required Responsibilities
Partner with stakeholders to scope questions and assumptions, support solution design, and facilitate project execution
Design and implement robust data ingestion, storage, integration, processing, retrieval, and management strategies for research datasets
Build transparent, reproducible pipelines and analysis environments in cloud infrastructures
Produce exhibits and memos explaining methods, limitations, and uncertainty
Apply advanced statistical, machine learning, and computational methods to analyze complex datasets related to computer and information science
Create compelling data visualizations and reports for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Support econometric/causal inference workstreams, translating questions into testable hypotheses and clear findings
Design and execute rigorous studies including difference-in-differences, panel models, instrumental variables, time series, etc.
Mentor teammates on best practices in data science
Stay updated on academic research and industry advancements in data science, AI, and information systems Requirements
Masterโ€™s degree, PhD preferred in Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field, with 5โ€“8+ years of applied data science experience
Proficiency in Python or R, and statistical tools such as Stata, SAS, with strong SQL skills
Expertise with ML algorithms including model selection, evaluation, and feature engineering
Experience applying AI and machine learning to structured and unstructured data for insights and performance optimization
Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Matplotlib
Experience processing large datasets and deploying LLMs in cloud platforms (e.g., Azure ADLS/Databricks/Azure ML)
Knowledge of LLMs (e.g., Claude Code, ChatGPT), including tradeoffs in capabilities, cost, and performance
Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking for complex research challenges
Exceptional communication skills, emphasizing rigor, clarity, and defensibility in analyses
Familiarity with FISMA/NIST/Zero Trust frameworks
Current Principal Data Scientist (PDS) Certification
