Job description

Flatiron Books, a division of Macmillan, is seeking a Marketing Manager to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an engaged and enthusiastic title marketer. You will oversee all aspects of developing and executing creative, customized title marketing campaigns. This role reports to the Department Head, the Senior Director of Marketing. You will work closely with editors, authors, agents, and publicists on hardcover and paperback publications across a variety of genres including: mystery/thriller, literary fiction, commercial fiction, women’s fiction, biographies and memoirs, parenting, self-help, cookbooks, and more. The ideal candidate must possess strong project and time management skills, attention to detail, and creativity.

What You'll Do:

Title-specific consumer marketing

  • Develop and execute creative marketing campaigns for a wide variety of titles across genres to generate awareness and drive sales
  • Develop advertising campaigns assigned titles and collaborate on ad copy, creative direction, vendor outreach and budget
  • Strategize influencer marketing plans, including ARC and finished book mailings, influencer boxes, paid and organic collaborations, book club outreach, and sweepstakes with partner brands
  • Manage early reading strategy on platforms like Goodreads and Netgalley for assigned titles with an eye toward growing reviews and ratings and driving sales
  • Work closely with the Marketing Assistant to develop cadence, creative and messaging on organic and paid promotions across Flatiron Books’ social channels 
  • Attend weekly marketing meetings and title specific meetings with authors and agents

Industry marketing and sales support

  • Plan and execute trade marketing campaigns, including conducting bookseller mailings, pitching bookstore and library book clubs, assisting the Macmillan Events team with trade shows, and working closely with the Macmillan Library Marketing team
  • Manage the creation of sales assets, including: in store merch materials and signage, sell sheets, promotional graphics, preorder incentives and kits for accounts, Edelweiss assets and account-specific requests as needed
  • Communicate plans to sales team at bi-weekly sales meeting, sales conference, and as needed

Analysis and Reporting

  • Maintain budget for assigned titles
  • Present learnings from influencer and advertising marketing programs at title-specific post-mortem meetings
  • Analyze learnings (ie ad reporting) to inform current and future campaigns accordingly
  • Communicate campaign updates to authors and agents regularly

What You'll Bring:

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills
  • Strong understanding of influencer relationships, the advertising landscape across a variety of adult readerships, and how to reach consumer readers
  • Results-oriented, motivated, resourceful, and able to work independently
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and thrive in a busy working environment
  • Ability to assess campaigns and pivot on strategy and execution accordingly
  • Energy, creativity, and a passion for a wide variety of book genres in a fast-pacing, evolving department
  • 5+ years marketing experience in trade book publishing
  • College Degree or equivalent experience
  • Basic InDesign, Canva and Photoshop skills
  • Photography skills a plus
  • Google Business Suite knowledge
  • Bachelor’s Degree

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000.
