Vice President, Public Relations (Biotech)

About the Role

The Vice President, Public Relations is a senior leadership role responsible for advancing client strategy, driving business growth, and delivering bestinclass earned communications programs across healthcare, biotechnology, and related sectors. This role serves as a trusted advisor providing highimpact counsel that aligns strategy, reputation, and storytelling.

The VP brings a combination of strategic communications expertise, strong business acumen, and executive presence. You will lead complex client engagements and play a critical role in organic growth, new business development, and team leadership.

The VP role requires a high level of organization, proactivity, and creativity, with clear ownership and accountability for outcomes. It plays a key role in driving and coordinating highvisibility, largescale initiatives for both the organization and its clients, and demands a strong business mindset. Success in this role depends on building trust through dependable communication and strong relationships, while balancing bigpicture strategic thinking with careful attention to detail in a fastpaced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Client Leadership & Strategic Counsel

  • Serve as a hands-on senior client lead, acting as a strategic thought partner and trusted advisor
  • Lead multiple client accounts within defined revenue targets, ensuring excellence in execution and quality control
  • Develop and oversee customized public relations and corporate communications strategies that align with business objectives and market dynamics
  • Shape and drive integrated communications programs across key milestones, including clinical data, regulatory events, and corporate announcements
  • Leverage deep knowledge of the biotech and life sciences media landscape to lead efforts to secure impactful, top-tier, trade, and business coverage
  • Oversee development and review of communications materials, ensuring accuracy, relevance, consistency, and high standards across messaging, data, grammar, and tone
  • Provide counsel on complex, highstakes issues including corporate positioning, reputation management, thought leadership, and executive visibility
  • Anticipate challenges, troubleshoot issues, and maintain strong client satisfaction and retention

Media & Market Leadership

  • Bring established relationships across biotech, healthcare, and business media
  • Guide teams in translating complex science into clear, compelling narratives
  • Advise clients on how to position within an evolving and competitive biotech landscape
  • Stay ahead of industry, media, and stakeholder trends to inform proactive strategy
  • Support teams in developing media and market-informed strategies and execution plans

Business Development & Organic Growth

  • Drive organic account growth by identifying new workstreams, upsell opportunities, and expanded scope opportunities
  • Lead or colead new business efforts, including strategy development, pitch leadership, and client presentations
  • Develop insight and datadriven strategies that clearly articulate value and business impact
  • Confidently present capabilities, case studies, and proposals to prospective clients through compelling storytelling

Financial & Fiscal Responsibility

  • Own financial health of assigned accounts, including budget development, forecasting, staffing alignment, and scope management
  • Ensure work is delivered within fee and expense agreements; proactively recommend scope changes when necessary
  • Partner closely with Finance and leadership to manage revenue projections and staffing utilization
  • Review and approve timesheets and train teams on fiscal responsibility and best practices

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop highperforming teams across levels, fostering growth, accountability, and strategic thinking
  • Manage and mentor direct reports, including performance feedback, career development, and goal setting
  • Collaborate with other public and investor relations senior leaders to ensure seamless integration across teams and disciplines
  • Attract, retain, and develop top talent while cultivating a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture

Thought Leadership & Industry Presence

  • Champion thought leadership through bylines, speaking engagements, panels, awards, and industry visibility
  • Bring forwardlooking industry insights to clients and internal teams
  • Represent the organization professionally within the healthcare, communications, and financeadjacent ecosystems

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field required
  • Advanced degree or credential (MBA, CFA, or similar) strongly preferred
  • 11-14+ years of relevant experience, including 8+ years in senior leadership or supervisory roles
  • Deep experience in healthcare, biotechnology, wellness, or highly regulated industries
  • Proven ability to advise Csuite executives and manage sophisticated communications programs
