AI Engineer
Location: Norfolk, VA (Onsite)
Role Overview
We are seeking an AI Engineer to support a project for the United States Navy (USN). The role involves architecting, implementing, and maintaining advanced AI systems. The ideal candidate will be a mid-to-senior level engineer with a strong background in software engineering and a focus on production AI, ML, or NLP development. This person must be able to articulate their programming process and how they utilize AI tools.
Key Responsibilities

• Architect and implement scalable multi-agent systems using advanced routing and hierarchical design patterns.
• Build, optimize, and maintain production-grade Retrieval-Augmented Generation pipelines and semantic search systems.
• Design and manage data preprocessing workflows, chunking strategies, and vector database infrastructure.
• Deploy, secure, and monitor AI applications and microservices within cloud environments such as AWS or OCI.
• Collaborate with data scientists, UI/UX designers, and subject matter experts to integrate AI features into user-facing products.
• Establish and enforce security best practices for large language model implementations and data privacy.

Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
Experience: A minimum of 7 years of professional software engineering experience is required, with at least 2 years dedicated to production AI, ML, or NLP development. Experience working in an Agile environment is also necessary.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Python and experience building robust RESTful APIs are required. Candidates must have hands-on experience deploying and managing cloud services within AWS or OCI and working with Linux operating systems. Expertise in text analytics, prompt engineering, data normalization, and cleaning techniques is also required. An IAT II or higher certification is required, and a Security+ certification must be obtained within 60 to 90 days of starting.
Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with NAVSEA Cyber RMF Processes and System Security Hardening.
• Familiarity with secondary languages such as Rust, Go, or JavaScript for system optimization.
• Relevant industry-recognized Cloud certifications, such as AWS Certified Machine Learning - Specialty or OCI AI credentials.
• Experience with open-source LLM evaluation and observability frameworks.
