LightEdge is looking for experienced technical individuals for our IBMi โ€“ Sr. Midrange Engineer position! As a part of the Lightedge team, this role is responsible for understanding client business and technical requirements, developing technical designs based on best practices, implementing solutions, creating documentation, and communicating effectively with both internal teams and clients.ย 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience supporting IBM Power System environments, IBMi systems, and related infrastructure. This position is primarily responsible for the administration, maintenance, and support of IBM Power Systems running IBMi, including multiple logical partitions, message handling, command-line utilities, work management, job and print control, device management, system configuration, security administration, backup and recovery, Client Access applications, external process and file transfer integrations, as well as OS and PTF management.ย 

Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking is required. Experience with replication and high availability solutions such as MIMIX, iTERA, PowerHA, or similar technologies is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, administer, and support various aspects of theย IBMiย platform.ย 
  • Maintain and deployย IBMiย operating system upgrades, cumulative PTF packages, group PTFs, and individual fixes.ย 
  • Design, administer, and troubleshootย IBMiย backup and recoveryย solutions (BRMS)ย at an expert level, including Full Systemย Flash Copy,ย VTL, and enterprise tape library architectures.ย 
  • Support replication and high availability software such as MIMIX,ย iTERA, PowerHA, or similar solutions.ย ย Emphasisย on MIMIX and Power HA is a plus.ย 
  • Support monitoring, automation, scheduling, and operations toolsย fromย Fortraย suchย asย CCSS, Robot Schedule, Robot Alertย as well asย othersย such asย Nagios, Halcyon, orย similar products.ย 
  • Perform system tuning, performance analysis, and capacity planning forย IBMiย systems and logical partitions.ย 
  • Provide Tier 3 support forย escalatingย customer, operations, and application issues.ย 
  • Assistย with object-level implementations while followingย IBMiย object-level security best practices.ย 
  • Manage multiple workstreams whileย maintainingย focus onย timely,ย accurate, and high-quality results.ย 
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in a large enterprise and customer-facing environment.ย 
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call support rotation asย required.ย 
  • Perform basic IBM Power System hardware maintenance and support activities.ย 
  • Understand, recommend, and implementย IBMiย system and user security best practices.ย 
  • Provide technical support, training, and direction to NOC staff and other team members.ย 
  • Configure LPARโ€™s and configure systems using both traditional Hardware Management Console and Virtual HMC.ย 
  • Work directly with vendor support organizations to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.ย 
  • Strong working knowledge of IBM BRMS Enterprise environments a plus.ย 

Education And Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience administering and supporting IBM Power Systems andย IBMiย environments.ย 
  • Strong knowledge ofย IBMiย Power Systems administration, troubleshooting, and performance management.ย 
  • Strong knowledge ofย IBMiย high availability setup, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting using MIMIX,ย iTERA, PowerHA, or similar technologies.ย 
  • Proficiencyย in planning and executingย IBMiย operating system upgrades, HMC updates, firmware updates, and related infrastructure maintenance.ย 
  • Proficiencyย inย IBMiย work management, including subsystems, job queues, job scheduling, job monitoring, and performance tuning.ย 
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, TCP/IP configuration, and NETSTAT troubleshooting withinย IBMiย environments.ย 
  • Knowledge ofย IBMiย networked systems, access controls, security guidelines, and administrative procedures.ย 
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues involvingย IBMi-based critical applications, operating system components, hardware, storage, and connectivity.ย 
  • Experience withย PowerVMย and VIOS is preferred.ย 
  • Experience withย PowerVC, IBMย PowerVS, and Live Partition Mobility(LPM) is preferred.ย 
  • Experience with LPAR design, build, configuration, and validation is preferred.ย 
  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.ย 
  • Ability toย establishย and maintain strong working relationships with other LightEdge employees, customers, vendors, and technical teams.ย
