Job Description
This is a heavy-industrial maintenance leadership role supporting an export grain terminal. The primary function is to ensure optimum performance of the maintenance team, and that all maintenance processes are performed safely and efficiently. Experience with bucket elevators, drag conveyors, belt conveyors, gearboxes, and other bulk handling systems is essential.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Develops cascading departmental goals in support of the site goals, along with individual goals for direct reports. Leads the maintenance staff and sets clear expectations, with reinforcement, for the department supervisors and superintendents.
  • Mentor, coach, and empower team to improve. Encourage contribution from all team members. Lead change and improvement initiatives.
  • Fosters open communication, transactional transparency, and operational discipline within the department and on its reliability processes.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement with the maintenance department and for daily maintenance activities. Works with the Plant Manager and the North America (NAM) Reliability team to eliminate barriers that prevents progress, innovation and improvement within the department.
  • Provides monthly reports on the performance of the department.
  • Understands reliability KPI's, reliability leading and lagging indicators. Lead the plant reliability program via the implementation of reliability best practices, including KPI's monitoring, PM and PdM, RCA, Bad Actor program, Planning and Scheduling, skills assessment and training.
  • Maintains control of the overall Maintenance OPEX and CAPEX budgets.
  • Responds to equipment issues or alarms and leads investigations as necessary
  • Maintains maintenance records per LDC policy.
  • Oversees the CMMS - work orders, parts inventory, etc.
  • Ensures proper departmental staffing levels and ensures that workers have received the appropriate training for the performance of their particular job duties.
  • Frequently interfaces with the maintenance staff and outside contractors as needed
  • Develops and maintains a strong network of vendors/contractors that can assist in all aspects of the maintenance of facility.
  • Manages planning and execution of complete or partial plant shutdowns effectively.
  • Leads the safety effort within the maintenance department, and ensures that the maintenance team follows the established LDC safety processes pertaining to maintenance and repairs.

Additional Responsibilities Functions
  • Develops and implements an electronic preventative maintenance program to keep elevator equipment functioning at peak efficiency
  • Oversees ordering/acquiring of the necessary parts and materials to support equipment repairs and the coordination of repair efforts with the Elevator Superintendent
  • Develops mechanical specifications and details necessary to seek and award the contracting of maintenance work to third parties; Supervises third party contractors performing maintenance repairs within the facility
  • Responds to human resources - related

Experience
Basic qualifications:
  • 5 years of PROVEN supervisory/management experience in the maintenance of industrial equipment.
  • Must have a strong record of successfully implementing effective preventative maintenance practices and procedures
  • Direct experience with a union labor force

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Basic qualifications:
  • Broad knowledge of maintaining operating equipment/industrial machinery, including preventive maintenance programs, repair techniques and equipment replacement options. Specific knowledge of grain elevator equipment preferred (bucket elevators, drag conveyors, spouting, gearboxes, etc)
  • Familiarity with PM and PdM best practices
  • Utilization of KPI's to monitor the performance of the reliability program
  • Lead the effort around the elimination of repetitive failures by using data and RCA methodologies
  • Ability to withstand extended periods of walking and standing; Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at extended heights of 175 feet.
  • Manage confined space entry, hot work, and working at heights permits/programs.
  • Understanding of lock out/tag out procedure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet strict monthly deadlines.

  • Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.
  • Continuous 24/7 plant operation; off-shift call-in requirements when needed.
  • Portions of the day will be spent outside with routine visits to operational areas resulting in exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions.
