Job description

Classification: Non-exempt
The Maintenance Technician supports the Chief Engineer in installing, maintaining and repairing industrial laundry equipment and systems while providing day-to-day guidance to maintenance technicians. This role remains primarily hands-on and is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs, while assisting in coordinating work, supporting training efforts, and helping ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
This is a developmental role intended to build technical and operational readiness for advancement, without formal supervisory authority. This is a safety-sensitive position.
You Will:
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) and repairs on industrial laundry equipment, including washers, dryers, boilers, and related systems.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document maintenance activities, track work performed, and support PM schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam systems.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to maintenance workers, including assisting with prioritizing work, staging jobs, and supporting workflow coordination.
  • Support onboarding and training of maintenance workers, including demonstrating proper repair techniques and safe work practices.
  • Assist technicians in diagnosing complex equipment issues and serves as a technical resource.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Engineer and production leadership to align maintenance activities with operational needs, including equipment start-up and shutdown.
  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Perform emergency and unscheduled repairs as needed, including occasional work outside normal hours.
  • Ensure tools, parts, and supplies required for maintenance activities are available and properly organized.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and external service providers regarding equipment issues and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate and timely maintenance records.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical schematics.
  • Identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes, equipment reliability, and efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and ensure adherence to all safety procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO).
  • Work cooperatively with all plant personnel in a professional manner.
  • Follow all company policies and comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • May support inventory tracking, parts ordering, and vendor coordination in the absence of the Chief Engineer or as part of development.
  • May assist other branch personnel as needed.
  • May drive to procure parts or transport equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring:
  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience in an industrial environment; candidates with 2 years of experience may be considered with demonstrated advanced technical proficiency and leadership capability.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Applicable certifications (e.g., boiler, electrical) may be required based on local regulations or facility needs.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and steam systems.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting ability in both low voltage (0-48V) and higher voltage single and three-phase power systems (up to 480V).
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and maintenance documentation systems.
  • Familiarity with PLC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to provide guidance, training support, and technical assistance to other technicians.
  • Ability to coordinate work and collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams.
  • Understanding of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and general safety practices.
  • Proficient and safe use of hand tools and power tools, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Work Environment and Requirements:
  • Standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and working in confined spaces.
  • Reaching overhead and working at heights using ladders or lifts (15 feet or more).
  • Lifting and carrying up to 100 lbs and pushing or pulling carts up to 500 lbs.
  • Operating forklifts and other industrial equipment.
  • Reading, writing, speaking, and hearing.
  • Work performed in an industrial laundry facility, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Exposure to large machinery, moving equipment, noise, heat, humidity, lint, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Work may involve use of respirators, operation of industrial equipment, and entry into confined spaces in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Occasional local travel for parts procurement or training may be required.
