Immediate Supervisor: This position reports directly to the Director of Maintenance.
Position Summary: This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The Maintenance Assistant supports the Building, Grounds, and Shipping & Receiving departments as needed. Responsibilities include grounds keeping, basic building and equipment maintenance, shipping and receiving support, and fleet vehicle upkeep. This position operates in accordance with institutional policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities:
• Perform landscaping and grounds keeping tasks including mowing, pruning, watering, fertilizing, leaf removal, litter pickup, and snow and ice removal as needed.
• Safely operate and perform routine maintenance on landscaping and mechanical equipment including mowers, blowers, chainsaws, tractors, and small engines.
• Assist maintenance staff with minor building and equipment repairs using basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical skills.
• Assist with setup and work orders related to campus events and exhibits.
• Pick up parts and supplies for maintenance and grounds operations.
• Assist with shipping and receiving tasks including deliveries, mail processing, and checking in shipments.
• Help maintain fleet vehicles by performing routine upkeep such as washing, vacuuming, oil changes, filter replacements, and tire inspections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of safe practices related to landscaping, grounds keeping, and general maintenance.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain vehicles, landscaping equipment, and power tools.
• Ability to perform routine building maintenance tasks.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work outdoors year-round in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience or training in general maintenance, landscaping, or mechanical repair preferred.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
