General Function:
Assists in the operation of Publishing and Distribution Center in work involving the receipt, sorting, distribution and preparation of the U.S. mail, campus mail and materials produced by the department for the college. Responsible for delivery and pick up of interoffice, U.S. mail, and packages within definite time schedules throughout the campus. Operates and maintains department equipment to produce high quality bindery, finishing and installation of projects.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent. Postal, print, or related industry certifications preferred.
Experience:
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365. Must have an understanding of Macintosh and Windows PC Operating Systems. One year's experience with postal and print environments desired. Customer service experience helpful. Maintain a valid driver's license in good standing to operate college vehicles including vans, carts, forklifts, and other vehicles as needed.

Publishing:
Uses MIS software for updating job status and managing appropriate inventory. Communicates and provides updates on job status to Distribution and Production Supervisor and Client Services and Distribution Specialist. Initiates service calls and maintains logs for all equipment. Completes bindery and finishing of work as well as assists in the installation of projects as assigned by the Distribution and Production Supervisor. Produces work that is compliant with the College's Graphic Standards. Maintains a safe, clean, organized workspace for efficient operation.
Distribution:
Delivery and distribution of mail, printed materials and other items for the college campus and extension sites. Picks up and delivers mail and bulk mail supplies from Palatine Post Office. Collects and sorts incoming mail and interoffice mail for distribution. Maintains mail van and Mail Center dock area for efficient operation. Sorts incoming and interoffice mail in departmental boxes for distribution. Operates the postage metering machine. Routinely handles confidential information (class rosters, grades, tests). Provides day-to-day direction for student or part-time workers. Trains student and part-time workers in efficient route methods. Boxing, wrapping and delivery. Successfully completes selection of annual certifications to maintain cutting-edge knowledge of current and future technologies and requirements. Performs related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work is primarily indoors but involves exposure to the outdoors and possible inclement weather. Work is medium/heavy in nature, requiring lifting from 20 lbs. to 70 lbs. Routinely, and standing/walking up to eight hours at a time. May require some seasonal flex shifts including some early mornings and later evenings and weekend responsibilities, as needed, to meet departmental objectives. Must adhere to all college dress code policies and present themselves in a professional manner. May require some seasonal flex shifts including some early mornings and later evenings.
Supervision:
Under general supervision of Publishing and Distribution Supervisor. Receives oral and written instructions as needed. Responsible for direction and mentoring of student and/or part-time workers
