Job description

The Director of Social Work provides direction and oversight of all clinical social work services, and social work internships, provided by Silver Hill Hospital, and interfaces with internal and external stakeholders to ensure patient-centered, high-quality treatment and social work services throughout the entire continuum of care- inpatient, transitional and outpatient services.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Develops and supervises social work services and identifies opportunities to expand service area.
  • Conducts group therapy training for all new clinical staff during orientation. Assists, as assigned, in the development and coordination of group programming at all levels of the hospital.
  • Oversees the Social Work Intern Program. Coordinates with schools and functions as the field instructor of social work interns. Leads the intern training group.
  • Responsible for clinical group scheduling on the weekends and group scheduling during the week.
  • Provides care appropriate to the to the ages of the patients served.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments, to develop strategies and processes that result in high-quality, well documented services. Works cross-functionally with clinicians and clinical leadership to ensure that high quality treatment is being provided consistently, and in accordance with quality standards of care.
  • Ensures that all services are properly documented; revises and implements new documentation protocols as needed and coordinates departmental training on documentation.
  • Collaborates with the Patient Experience and Quality Departments on implementing initiatives identified through patient and family feedback and in response to regulatory and/or accreditation standards.
  • Performs management responsibilities including interviewing, orienting, coaching, evaluating, and contributing to the professional growth and development of direct reports. Conducts regular staff supervision meetings and directs and assists in personnel issues as necessary in conjunction with the Human Resources Department.
  • Ensures quality communication and dialogue between members of the social work staff and the multidisciplinary teams throughout the continuum of care at Silver Hill, with the intent of providing an exceptional, seamless, and high-quality patient experience.
  • Recognizes and acknowledges the skills of key team members and utilize their strengths to the benefit of the team. Establishes an environment where open discussion is encouraged and develop clear and inclusive decision-making processes. Builds trust and camaraderie between team members.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree in Social Work
  • Licensed in the state of Connecticut as a Clinical Social Worker
  • Experience working in mental health setting with DBT and other evidence-based therapeutic modalities Group work/family systems
  • Experience with electronic medical records, preferred
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a health care setting
  • Management experience, preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to walk to common areas for group sessions
