Job Title: CNC Setup Technician

Status: Non-exempt (hourly)

Pay: $30 - $35/hr. DOE, plus monthly bonus program is paid when company-wide monthly sales goal is reached (full-time).

Schedule: Monday - Thursday 6:00am to 4:30pm

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The CNC Setup Technician is responsible for performing machine setups on CNC mills and/or lathes and ensure jobs are ready for efficient, accurate production. This role focuses on preparing machines, installing tooling and fixtures, verifying programs, and supporting operators to keep production running smoothly.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 2-4+ years of CNC machining or setup experience.
  • Strong understanding of tooling, work holding, offsets, and machine operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges).
  • Basic understanding of G-code and CNC control navigation (Fanuc, Siemens, Celos, or similar).


REQUIRED PERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with others
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent work ethic, reliability, and consistent attendance
  • Ability to read and write in English is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Set up CNC machines by installing tooling, fixtures, work holding, and verifying correct program selection.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, job travelers, and setup sheets to determine machining requirements.
  • Load and align raw material, establish work offsets, and run first-article parts to confirm accuracy.
  • Perform program verification and minor G-code edits when needed to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Inspect first-article and in-process parts using precision measuring tools to confirm dimensions and tolerances.
  • Troubleshoot setup-related issues, including tool wear, work holding problems, and dimensional deviations.
  • Support CNC operators by providing clear instructions, answering questions, and ensuring smooth handoff after setup.
  • Maintain tooling, fixtures, and setup documentation, reporting any issues or improvement opportunities.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Quality to resolve machining challenges and improve processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. 
  • Carry out additional machining or production tasks as assigned to support workflow and production goals.
