Job description

The Maintenance Assistant performs general maintenance and janitorial duties, including interior and exterior building repair and cleaning, minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. In addition, this role is responsible for maintaining grounds upkeep to help provide a clean and safe environment for students and staff.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Previous maintenance experience is preferred
  • Must have a working knowledge of different hand and power tools
  • Valid Driver's License with the ability to successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record background check

GENERAL HOURS OF DUTY: The Maintenance Assistant is a full-time position, working between 6:30 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Hours may be altered during special needs projects or inclement weather.
REPORTS TO: Principal - Day School
JOB DUTIES:
  • Complete all tasks as assigned by the Principal or the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
  • Utilize good judgment in determining the maintenance needs of the campus and communicating needs to the supervisor.
  • Identify and communicate any safety concerns to appropriate parties promptly.
  • Identify and repair any damage to walls, including painting as needed.
  • Identify repairs needed throughout campus and maintain open communication with the maintenance department and supervisor team regarding the repair process or recommendations.
  • Perform minor carpentry, electrical, and plumbing maintenance as needed throughout campus
  • Maintain clean windows throughout campus.
  • Maintain stock of all supplies required by the maintenance department.
  • Assist with the organization and cleanliness of the shop.
  • Moving items, including stock, furniture, and other items within buildings around the day school.
  • Operating snow removal and other grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Responsible for completing floor care, including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and shampooing carpets.
  • General cleaning of identified office space.
  • Assist with maintaining the general appearance of Chileda's campus, including yard work or external repairs as directed by the supervisor.
  • Communicate to the supervisor any proactive steps that can and should be implemented to impact student and staff safety.
  • All other tasks as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The Maintenance Assistant is a physically active, fast-paced position requiring the ability to manage several tasks and complete projects timely. Physical ability to operate floor machines, various hand and power tools, mop, and other equipment. Requires lifting and transferring objects over 50 pounds. Must be able to perform duties without direct risk of substantial harm to others or themselves. Detailed physical requirements are included on the Maintenance Assistant Essential Functions form.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work will be performed in all areas of the Chileda campus, including classrooms, shared office spaces, the lobby, the garage and maintenance shop, the commons area, and outdoor areas. This position requires using a company van to drive to local stores for supplies.
