Job description

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment within the packaging department. This includes but is not limited to labelers, scales and conveyors. Prior Experience in Machine Operation is a requirement. The ideal candidate will complete all job duties with safety and efficiency in mind. This position requires documentation of material usage, product waste and weight control. The ideal candidate should be able to operate, adjust and troubleshoot machinery as needed.
2nd Shift: Monday - Friday 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Other duties may be assigned
  • Set up, calibrate and clean equipment to ensure proper startup for production cycles.
  • Control and adjust machine settings (speed, temperature, pack sizes) and programs.
  • Troubleshoot machine related issues that occur during production.
  • Maintain activity logs pertaining to overall equipment efficiency.
  • Perform routine inspections of equipment (Vertical Form, Fill & Seal, Cartoner and Labeler machines)
  • Ensure the proper packaging materials are being used for the correct products.
  • Visually inspect all packaged materials for damage and printing defects.
  • Visually inspect all products for foreign materials and other food safety concerns.
  • Communicate changes in production, equipment malfunctions, material shortages, etc to Supervisors and Managers
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of packing processes and machine operating in order to meet production goals and minimize cost downtime.
  • Keep a neat and orderly work area.
  • Wear all required PPE and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Offer general support to all warehouse and packaging associates.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours and overtime on weekends and holidays.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:
  • 6 months of warehouse or machine operating experience required.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in group settings.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to reach above shoulder level, climb, balance, kneel, bend over, etc.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to assemble small objects, boxes, etc.
  • Be physically active for 8 hours without becoming fatigued or out of breath.
  • Stand for 8 hours a day.
  • Frequently lift and or move 40+ pounds
  • Occasionally lift and or move 75+ pounds
  • Frequently push 300-400 lbs on a rolling cart, sometimes at an incline

The salary range for this full-time position is $24.25 - $30.75, + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
