Machine Operator / Winding Operator

Peru, IN

Pay: $17.00/hour starting | Scheduled increases up to approximately $19.00/hour

Schedule: Day and Night Shift Opportunities

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

Position Overview

A well-established global manufacturing organization is seeking Machine Operators to join its production team at a clean, temperature-controlled manufacturing and distribution facility in North-Central Indiana.

This is a hands-on manufacturing position operating high-speed automated converting and winding equipment. Operators will be responsible for loading raw materials, monitoring equipment, inspecting finished products, stacking and packaging materials, and performing basic preventive maintenance.

This is a great opportunity for someone with previous machine operating or manufacturing experience who wants a consistent schedule, opportunities to cross-train, scheduled wage growth, and the stability of a large organization.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Set up, operate, and monitor high-speed automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Load rolls or spools of raw material into production machinery.
  • Monitor the winding and converting process to ensure equipment is operating properly.
  • Remove, stack, package, and organize finished products.
  • Perform visual inspections and dimensional checks to verify product quality.
  • Use calipers, tape measures, and other basic measuring devices to ensure products meet specifications.
  • Identify and correct minor equipment issues to minimize production downtime.
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance, including cleaning equipment, lubricating components, clearing material jams, and addressing minor roller or bearing issues.
  • Make basic machine adjustments as necessary to maintain production and quality standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Accurately complete required production and quality documentation.
  • Follow all plant safety, quality, and operating procedures.
  • Cross-train on additional equipment and production processes as needed.
What We're Looking For
  • 6+ months of manufacturing, production, or machine operating experience preferred.
  • Experience operating high-speed or high-volume manufacturing equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to troubleshoot basic machine issues.
  • Experience performing basic preventive maintenance on production equipment is a plus.
  • Comfortable using basic hand tools and measuring equipment such as calipers and tape measures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality products.
  • Willingness to learn new equipment and cross-train in different areas.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work a consistent schedule.
  • Ability to remain on your feet throughout the shift and perform repetitive physical activities including walking, lifting, twisting, bending, and stacking materials.
Ideal Experience

Candidates from a variety of manufacturing backgrounds may be successful in this position, including:

  • Paper, packaging, or corrugated manufacturing
  • Roll forming or metal processing
  • Automotive manufacturing
  • Plastics manufacturing
  • Food and beverage production
  • Medical device manufacturing
  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing
  • High-speed converting or automated production environments

Direct winding experience is not required. Candidates who have operated automated production machinery and are comfortable making adjustments and performing basic machine maintenance are encouraged to apply.

Work Environment

This position is located in a clean, organized, and temperature-controlled manufacturing facility. While much of the production equipment is automated, operators remain actively involved throughout the process.

Employees should expect a combination of machine operation and physical activity, including loading materials, monitoring equipment, inspecting products, troubleshooting minor issues, and stacking finished materials.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Starting pay of $17.00/hour
  • Scheduled wage increases approximately every 30 days, with potential growth to around $19.00/hour
  • Contract-to-hire opportunity with potential conversion after approximately 24 weeks
  • Clean and temperature-controlled facility
  • Consistent work schedule
  • Limited overtime
  • Stable production environment
  • Opportunities to learn multiple machines and processes
  • Cross-training and skill development
  • Competitive benefits available upon conversion to direct employment
