Asphalt Screedman

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:
The Asphalt Screedman is responsible for operating and controlling the screed portion of an asphalt paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade, and smoothness of asphalt surfaces.


Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate and control the screed on an asphalt paving machine,
Adjust screed height, crown, and width to meet project specifications,
Ensure proper mat thickness, slope, and smoothness,
Monitor asphalt temperature and consistency during placement,
Work closely with the Paver Operator and Foreman to maintain proper paving speed and material flow,
Check grade and alignment using string lines, lasers, or grade controls,
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of screed equipment,
Assist with raking, shoveling, and other general paving duties as needed,
Follow all safety procedures and company policies,
Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE,
May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
Additional duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
One or more years' experience in asphalt paving preferred,
Valid driver's license,
Experience operating screed controls on commercial or highway projects,
Ability to read grades and understand project plans,
Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and compaction processes,
Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship,
Valid driver's license preferred,
OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 or other safety certifications preferred but not required,
High School Diploma or GED required,
Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.


Working Conditions:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the workday,
Fast-paced, team-oriented paving crew environment,
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist, throughout the workday,
This includes frequently climbing on and off paving equipment,
This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and the constant use of hands and arms,
This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (e.g., glasses, contact lenses),
Performing strenuous work for extended periods in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, and other inclement weather conditions,
Work may be performed in environments with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and moving equipment.
