Job description

Machine Operator

Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 5:00 AM - 3:30 PM (4 day / 10 hour shift)

POSITION SUMMARY

Sewing Machine Operators are responsible for operating various sewing machines within the production process. Sewers are required to perform various tasks to set up, operate, process and monitor production. The Sewing Machine Operator is responsible for inspecting parts to specifications and adjusting tools as necessary to maintain quality specifications. This includes the ability to resolve minor component and quality issues.

 CORE FUNCTIONS

·         Operates various machines to ensure continuous production at a constant rate of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials throughout the entire shift and performing basic adjustments to ensure safe and efficient production of products.

·         Perform in-process inspections of parts throughout the manufacturing run and ensure they meet visual standards of acceptance.

·         Responsible for producing parts in the proper quantity as identified by the production schedule.

·         Perform necessary pre-operation activities to ensure proper equipment startup.

·         Adjust machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications and in a timely fashion.

·         Perform operational procedures to ensure the quality of the product packaged.

·         Follow and commit to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) for safety, quality, production, efficiency, and service requirements.

·         Report material utilization in the production report.

·         Ensure daily production report data is reported correctly and up to date.

·         Recognize defective materials for color, surface blemishes, finish, and dimensions.

·         Identify the proper tooling required for pending production.

·         Inspect the condition of molds and component parts for damage and wear.

·         Inspect machine, conveyer and tools in department and notify Lead that a maintenance repair form is needed, or replacement tools are required.

·         Keeping work cell, department, and fire-doors clear of trash and other obstructions that could hinder department performance/safety.

·         Maintain condition of work area to meet 5-S standards.

·         Communicate with team members and support teams.

·         Maintain professional attitude offering support to Leads, Supervisors and Manager.

·         Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to assist whenever and in whatever capacity needed to ensure continuous production at a constant rate of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal wasted time and materials throughout the entire shift.                              

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

·         High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience is required.  

·         Prior experience operating manufacturing, packaging, and process control equipment preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 – This position is subject to Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.             

 

Physical Activities

 – This position is subject to the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, crawling, and repetitive motions.

 

Visual Acuity

 – The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.              

 

Working Conditions

 – The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, including heat, noise, vibration, and hazards from a production-based environment.
