Job description

Position Overview

The Payroll Director will lead the organization’s Payroll Department in delivering payroll for both the United States and Canada, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and providing strategic leadership focused on long‑term planning, scalability, and process improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the payroll function, focusing on long‑term planning, scalability, and process improvement.
  • Lead project management and end‑to‑end ownership of payroll‑related initiatives, including company acquisitions and technology integrations.
  • Oversee payroll compliance activities, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all payroll operations, including audits, internal controls, reconciliations, and required reporting.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with Human Resources and cross‑functional stakeholders to align payroll processes with broader organizational goals.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop payroll team members, fostering accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance.
  • Manage external vendor relationships to ensure service levels are met.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 10+ years of progressive payroll experience, with 3–5 years hands‑on experience with Workday.
  • Proven history of people leadership in a payroll or related function.
  • Experience handling diverse pay types (hourly, salaried, commissions, bonuses, equity/stock‑based compensation).
  • Broad knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll, time reporting, payroll systems, processes, regulations, and policies.
  • Payroll experience in a multi‑location organization operating in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Federal/State tax filing regulations and other payroll legislation.
  • Proven ability to organize and prioritize projects in a fast‑paced, deadline‑oriented environment.
  • Strong customer service disposition and professionalism.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically Excel.
