Job description

Position Summary

Vista Equity Partners is seeking an M365 Platform Engineer to design, implement, and maintain our Microsoft 365 platform using modern infrastructure-as-code and automation practices. Exchange Online sits at the core of this role, with broad responsibility across the wider M365 platform spanning SharePoint architecture and modernization, Microsoft Purview, and Power Platform enablement. The engineer partners closely with InfoSec, the SharePoint Lead, and the service desk team to deliver a secure, well-governed environment.

This role will be based in our Austin or New York office in a hybrid capacity.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement automation solutions for M365 platform management using PowerShell, Bash, and Terraform.
  • Configure, secure, and monitor M365 services using infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Develop and maintain platform-level automation using Azure Automation, Logic Apps, and Power Automate for automated response to platform events.
  • Manage and secure Exchange Online, including mail flow rules, anti-phishing policies, transport configurations, and mailbox provisioning.
  • Lead and support Exchange migrations (on-premises to Exchange Online and tenant-to-tenant), including planning, execution, coexistence management, and post-migration stabilization, applying playbooks consistently to support Vista's ongoing M&A activity.
  • Build and govern SharePoint Online sites in alignment with Vista's information architecture standards, including site design, taxonomy, metadata, and permission models.
  • Support the modernization of Vista's SharePoint footprint and contribute to broader collaboration and content management initiatives across the firm.
  • Enable and govern Vista's Power Platform environment, supporting employees who build their own automations and apps.
  • Establish and maintain Power Platform guardrails, including environment strategy, DLP policies, connector governance, and Center of Excellence (CoE) practices, that support safe and scalable self-service development.
  • Implement and maintain security policies across the M365 stack, including Defender for Office 365, Microsoft Purview (DLP, Information Protection, Sensitivity Labels, Retention, eDiscovery), and Copilot data governance.
  • Create self-service capabilities and automated workflows to reduce manual administrative overhead.
  • Collaborate with security team to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, including ITGC controls applicable to M365 services.
  • Document platform configurations, automation scripts, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for platform-related incidents.
  • Collaborate with and mentor the service desk team to reduce manual M365 operational tasks.
Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • 5+ years administering Microsoft 365 environments at enterprise scale.
  • Strong PowerShell scripting for M365 and Azure automation.
  • Experience with Bash scripting and Linux/Unix environments.
  • Hands-on Exchange Online administration, including mail flow, transport rules, and migrations (on-premises to cloud and tenant-to-tenant).
  • Hands-on SharePoint Online experience, including site architecture, governance, and modernization initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) sufficient to govern citizen development and design enablement frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of M365 security features, including Defender for Office 365 and Microsoft Purview (DLP, Information Protection, retention, eDiscovery).
  • Experience with Microsoft Graph API for automation and reporting.
  • Experience with Git and CI/CD concepts.

Soft Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with mentoring capability.

  • Terraform for infrastructure-as-code implementations.
  • Experience designing or operating a Power Platform Center of Excellence.
  • Microsoft 365 Copilot deployment, governance, and data security.
