Job Summary

We are seeking a Lumber Buyer who will play a key role in supporting operations across multiple locations. This position is responsible for ensuring our plants have the materials they need to run efficiently — while maintaining strong supplier relationships and controlling costs.

The Lumber Buyer effectively sources and procures wood products and related products, working in conjunction with other members of the purchasing department, plant management, and salespeople across multiple facilities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with sawmills and brokers on procuring lumber
  • Negotiate pricing and contract terms, and coordinate with logistics on delivery schedules
  • Maintain proper inventory levels to meet forecast and stocking measurables
  • Procure products that meet or exceed the quality, service, and price requirements of the assigned facilities
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the assigned facilities — their processes, products, manufacturing capabilities, customers, sales programs, competitors, and service needs
  • Proactively offer relevant products to sales and plant management
  • Understand and analyze market conditions to inform purchasing decisions

Qualifications

  • Experience in lumber buying and sales, or equivalent experience
  • Proven negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to research, gather, and interpret information to drive sound purchasing decisions
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with sawmills, brokers, and internal stakeholders

Benefits

Culpeper Treated Lumber is family-owned and operated. Our team members enjoy:

  • Competitive salary
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Long-term and short-term disability
  • Company-paid life insurance
  • Company-wide health incentives
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Profit sharing
  • Paid vacation and holidays
