Department OverviewThe Sales Engineering Group is the technical lifeblood of the sales organization. Our engineers bring to life the innovative communications solutions that make a difference in the moments that matter. The Sales Engineering groups have the technology and design responsibility for all sales support engagements within the region. This position is within the T5 (Midwest) Projects Presale Engineering Team.
Job Description

The Presales Engineer is the architect and owner of the solution design. You will be responsible for working closely with the Sales Team to deliver customer driven, world class, leading edge, end-to-end solutions that rise to the challenges of first responder agencies within the territory. The team concentrates on the following mission-critical communications technologies at various levels of complexity: Public Safety grade mobile/portable voice and data networks, Advanced Mobile devices, Public Safety mobile broadband networks and devices (LTE), Integrated Command & Control: 9-1-1 Dispatch Consoles, Mobile Video, Cybersecurity and more. This person will work closely with the Area Sales Manager and Presale Business Manager to understand, manage, and prioritize the presale opportunities within the Midwest region.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination with the various functional teams (Systems Integration, Service, Sales, Product Groups) to ensure all business unit goals are addressed in our proposals and win-strategies

  • Development of the implementation approach and service plan necessary to win the project

  • Meeting/exceeding customer requirements and providing value alternatives when requirements cannot be met

  • Managing to support Motorola's sales, revenue, and margin goals

  • Driving all sole source & RFP (Request for Proposal) projects to completion

  • Collaborating with project team members (engineering, proposal specialist, sales, and service) in the development of proposed solutions

  • Working with 3rd party vendors as needed to develop fully integrated solutions

  • Responsible for being the technical solution owner of budgetary, competitive, and sole source proposal responses

  • Assists in providing point by point technical responses to Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Information (RFI) responses

  • Provide hardware and software recommendations based on customer requirements

  • Provide solutions description and system configuration diagrams

  • Provide bill of material for software, hardware, and non-standard third party applications

  • Identify interface requirements and solicit system implementation team for design

  • Conduct customer facing technical requirements discovery sessions for estimation and configuration (Conference Call or In Person)

  • Builds relationships with sales, internal engineering, system integration, proposal, pricing, and key technical subject matter expert teams within the organization

  • Work with the customer and the sales team to deploy product evaluations as necessary

  • Ability to provide customer product training (both in-person and virtual)

  • Computer hardware sizing, configuration and implementation experience

  • Technical writing experience and the ability to deliver technical information to a nontechnical audience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Sales, Engineering, Public Safety, and/or Solutions Architecture

  • OR 4+ years of experience in one or more of the following: Sales, Engineering, Public Safety, and/or Solutions Architecture

  • Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Willingness to think out of the box and challenge the status quo

  • Strong general knowledge of wireless communications fundamentals and voice/data architectures - both public and private (e.g. APCO P25, LTE, 802.11, 3G/4G) is highly desirable.

  • Virtual system implementation and design including both server and desktop virtualization

  • Strong general knowledge of IP networking architecture, protocols and security is highly desirable

  • Knowledge of RF coverage predictions, traffic/capacity modeling, and related toolsets is an asset

Location/Travel:

  • Preferred candidates will live in the North or Central North region

  • Must be willing to travel up to 10-20% of the time

Target Base Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000 USD

On Target Earnings: $108,000 - $126,000 USD
