What does a Low Voltage Operations Manager do?

A Low Voltage Operations Manager oversees the planning, installation, and maintenance of low voltage systems such as security, fire alarms, telecommunications, and audio-visual equipment. They are responsible for managing teams, ensuring compliance with safety standards, coordinating with clients, and maintaining project timelines and budgets. Their role also typically includes troubleshooting technical issues, sourcing materials, and ensuring all work meets relevant codes and regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Low Voltage Operations Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Low Voltage Operations Manager, you need expertise in electrical systems, project management, and compliance standards, often backed by a degree in electrical engineering or related certifications like BICSI or NICET. Familiarity with industry-specific tools such as CAD software, project management platforms, and low voltage testing equipment is essential. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help drive team performance and client satisfaction. These skills ensure efficient project execution, regulatory compliance, and successful team management in a technical field.

What is the difference between Low Voltage Operations Manager vs Electrical Supervisor?

AspectLow Voltage Operations ManagerElectrical Supervisor

Work EnvironmentOversees low voltage systems in commercial, industrial, or infrastructure projectsSupervises electrical installation and maintenance on-site
Industry UsageCommon in telecommunications, data centers, and building automationUsed across construction, maintenance, and electrical contracting

The Low Voltage Operations Manager focuses on managing low voltage systems and projects, often in a managerial capacity, while the Electrical Supervisor handles on-site electrical work and team supervision. Both roles require electrical certifications and safety training, but their scope and responsibilities differ based on project management versus direct supervision.

How does a Low Voltage Operations Manager typically collaborate with project teams and clients to ensure successful project delivery?

A Low Voltage Operations Manager works closely with project managers, engineers, technicians, and clients throughout all phases of a project. Job description

Who We Are
At JonnyPops, our team is empowered to make an impact every day โ€” from producing high-quality, innovative frozen novelties to spreading kindness one pop at a time. We look for bright and ambitious individuals who seek out challenges, thrive in fast-paced and high-growth environments, align with our core values, and get fulfillment from seeing their work transform the world around them.
Based in Elk River, MN, JonnyPops develops, manufactures, distributes, and markets frozen novelties. Growing from a dorm-room start-up in 2012, our mission is to make โ€œA Better Pop for a Better World!โ€ โ€” and we lead the frozen novelties space in innovation, using simple ingredients with no artificial dyes. Every pop stick includes a kind deed, spreading kindness every day.
Why This Role Exists
As JonnyPops scales its Elk River manufacturing facility, the volume of low-voltage wiring, cable management, and structured cabling work has grown significantly. Today, this work is performed by outside vendors โ€” including our structured cabling partner, InFocus โ€” at a cost and lead time that no longer aligns with the pace and efficiency expectations of the business.
This role brings low-voltage and cable installation capability in-house, working directly under the Master Electrician to self-perform work previously contracted out. The Junior Electrician Technician will be the standard-bearer for cleanliness, cable organization, and workmanship quality โ€” ensuring every installation reflects the precision and pride JonnyPops brings to everything it makes.
Job Summary
The Junior Electrician Technician supports the Maintenance & Engineering team with low-voltage wiring, structured cabling, conduit routing, and cable management across the Elk River facility. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role for someone who takes personal pride in the neatness and quality of their work โ€” someone who sees a tidy cable run and a clean panel as a reflection of professionalism. You will report to the Master Electrician and work closely with the broader maintenance team to support production uptime, capital projects, and facility improvements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cable Installation & Low-Voltage Work
  • Pull, route, and terminate low-voltage cabling including Cat5e/Cat6 network cable, control wiring, sensor leads, and communication cables throughout the facility.
  • Install conduit, cable trays, J-hooks, and raceways in support of structured cabling infrastructure and production equipment installations.
  • Terminate, label, and test all cable runs to confirm signal integrity and proper connection prior to sign-off.
  • Support installation and connection of vision system cameras, sensors, and associated low-voltage infrastructure on production lines.
  • Assist the Master Electrician with higher-voltage tasks as directed and within the scope of your license and qualifications.
Workmanship, Cleanliness & Organization
  • Maintain exceptionally neat and organized cable runs at all times โ€” properly bundled, tied, labeled, and routed with consistent bend radii and professional appearance.
  • Keep all work areas, panels, and electrical rooms clean, organized, and fully restored at the conclusion of every task โ€” no exceptions.
  • Maintain the electrical shop and tool storage in a state of continuous readiness โ€” tools returned, consumables restocked, and workspace cleared after every job.
  • Apply consistent labeling standards to all cables, panels, and termination points; update as-built documentation in the CMMS (Fiix) after every installation or modification.
  • Set and maintain the workmanship standard for the electrical team โ€” your installs should be indistinguishable from professional contracted work, and better where possible.
Maintenance & Facility Support
  • Complete work orders in Fiix accurately and on time โ€” including job notes, materials used, time logged, and before/after documentation.
  • Support the preventive maintenance program for low-voltage systems โ€” inspecting connections, checking terminations, and flagging any degradation before it becomes a failure.
  • Assist the broader Maintenance & Engineering team with general facility tasks during periods of low electrical demand.
Food Safety
  • Follow all OSHA, NFPA 70E, and JonnyPops safety protocols โ€” including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures โ€” without exception on every task.
  • Perform all work in compliance with JonnyPops GMP standards โ€” using food-safe materials and methods in production areas and fully cleaning up after every task in or adjacent to production zones.
  • Proactively identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged cables, or improperly secured equipment to the Master Electrician immediately.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1โ€“3 years of hands-on experience in low-voltage cabling, structured cabling installation, or electrical support work in a commercial or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency pulling, routing, terminating, and testing Cat5e/Cat6, control cable, and sensor wiring.
  • An obsessive attention to neatness, labeling, and organization โ€” you take personal pride in the appearance and quality of your work, and it shows in every install.
  • Understanding of basic electrical safety, LOTO procedures, and OSHA general industry standards.
  • Ability to read basic wiring diagrams and cabling schematics.
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and comfortable working independently or alongside a skilled trades team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with GMP or food manufacturing environments preferred; willingness to learn and follow food-safety protocols required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minnesota Apprentice Electrician registration or active enrollment in an apprenticeship program.
  • BICSI Installer or equivalent structured cabling certification.
  • Experience with vision system or sensor cabling in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
  • CMMS experience (Fiix or similar) for work order documentation.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) โ€” a plus given the multilingual team environment on the production floor.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Primarily on-site at the Elk River manufacturing facility.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb ladders, work overhead, crawl in tight spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Works in variable temperature environments (production areas range from ambient to freezing); exposure to industrial noise and machinery.
  • PPE required per task; arc flash PPE as directed by the Master Electrician when working near energized equipment.
