SFCS is seeking a Low Voltage Systems Designer to join our Roanoke, Virginia office. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with architects, engineers, interior designers, and clients while designing and coordinating low voltage systems for a variety of complex building projects.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced, mid-level, low voltage systems professional who enjoys developing innovative technology solutions, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering high-quality designs that support exceptional client outcomes. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound technical judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
Qualifications
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification required, or the ability and desire to obtain certification within an agreed-upon timeframe.
  • Experience designing low voltage systems for commercial, healthcare, senior living, education, government, or other institutional facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of low voltage systems, including structured cabling, nurse call, access control, CCTV, wireless networks, intercom, and audio/visual systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, industry standards, and client-specific design requirements.
  • Proficiency with Revit.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports, project documentation, and construction specifications.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
Responsibilities
  • Design and coordinate low voltage systems for new construction, renovation, and expansion projects.
  • Evaluate project requirements and develop practical, innovative, and cost-effective system solutions that align with client objectives.
  • Prepare construction documents, specifications, drawings, and bid packages utilizing AutoCAD, Revit, and other design technologies.
  • Coordinate low voltage systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and specialty disciplines.
  • Conduct site observations and field visits to verify construction progress and compliance with design intent.
  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams throughout all phases of project delivery.
  • Support project management activities, including project planning, coordination, scheduling, and client communication.
  • Participate in project meetings and presentations to discuss project requirements, design solutions, and coordination efforts.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to early career designers while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
  • Stay current with evolving technologies, products, software, and industry best practices to continually enhance project delivery.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically in support of project assignments, client meetings, site visits, and collaboration across SFCS offices.
